There are quite a few Croft cognoscenti on this forum.
If I had the choice between a new Croft Micro Basic (phono) and a s/h Croft Epoch at a similar price, which direction would you point me in?
Rob
If you want I'll bring my Croft MBP round your place and you can see what you think, no probs send me a PM - I'm hanging about doing nothing much all over Easter holiday.

Blown away :lolsign:
Not only was that response very helpful
It was extremely rapid :)
Expect a PM
Don't know the Epoch as it's from Glenn's dark time (when not everything was made by "the man..."), but it may well be better than the basic, which may or may not be back in production....
Also, the Epoch will be upgradeable by Glenn, so who knows?
Hi
The epoch is better, with bigger transformer and the regulated ht for the ECL85 valve.
Take the epoch, and send it to Glenn. And get i upgrade to the new anode follower.
And maybe the new mosfett regulated. And is near the Croft Series 25R i think.

Although I own a Croft Micro 25 Basic I can see from Glenn's website that there are clear differences between this preamp and the 25 R regarding the transformers and their sizes. The R has two phono inputs though which would be of no consequence to me.
If I ever stop being self employed and get a proper job, one of the things I have promised myself is an upgrade of my pre and power to the R series (just don't tell hifi dave)
