Hello everyone,
I have been playing with audio systems for decades and having had the same setup for a little while feel the need to upgrade.
I have two projects on the go so hoping to find good information here.
a) restoration of ESL57s
Having heard a friends speakers and discovering that most of what I had read about ESL57 bass & imaging deficiencies was wrong, I went a bid mad and bought six of them off Ebay, three known to be not working, with the intention of ending up with one restored pair for my own use, one pair restored to sell on and recover my costs and the last pair to be sacrificed in the learning and repair process. Not necessarily logical and thought out beforehand but a good story and what actually seems to be happening.
b) Hi-Res digital replay.
My eventual aim is to have all my audio (stereo and surround sound) stored on hard disk and replayed through the same system which will also provide streaming from high quality Internet radio. I will then be able to play anything at anytime controlling what is playing using a hand held tablet.
My musical tastes are not confined to any particular genre so as a snapshot I just checked what is in my car CD player:
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Let Love in
Hugh Laurie - Let Them Talk
Steven Isserlis - Shostakovich Cello Concerto No1
Chloë Hanslip & Igor Tchetuev - Medtner Violin sonatas.
Jocelyn Pook - Untold Things
Led Zepplin III
Oh yes the title of the post describes me. Aged but new to the forum
