IP address issues with R-Pi

Hopefully someone can give me some help with an IP address issue with my R-Pi 3.

I use it on wi-fi, controlling Volumio with my Android phone, 9 times out of 10 the IP adress has changed and I can't access it. This is happening even if I leave it switched on.

Could someone please explain to me in laymans terms how to fix the IP address to stop this happening.

You should be able to assign or reserve the IP address for the Pi in the settings for your router. I've found different brands of router refer to this as different things and sometimes is not often the easiest thing to locate when you log into the router settings.

Had a look and can't see anything obviouse. Strangley, my current Pi IP adress is not showing as connected - but it is.

It could be something obscure like DHCP reservation and may not be in the basic settings. Essentially you are looking for something that ties together the current IP address for the Pi and its MAC address to that the router stops randomly assigning it an IP as part of its regular cycle.

my old provider, plusnet's router did this regularly, although not when in use. i used fing to keep track of it. talk talk router i have now doesnt seem to change things at all. static ip's are sometimes available which might sort the issue

That works on the PC but not my phone.

As I said, it is there under each device. Struth has posted the screen for his RPi/moode player.

Have you tried just volumio or volumio.lan on the phone? worth a shot.
Or lookup the IP address with Network Utility on the Mac.

Otherwise, what router is it?

guessing the hostname will be raspberrypi but no idea how to find it that way. think i cleared all the ips and then started again, putting the rpi on last. its stayed that way ever since.

What options do you see when you log into your router on your computer?
The problem appears to be one of lease renewal, so if you can locate where static IP or DHCP reservation is on the router you can stop the route reallocating things.

Ha, I dont know what happened but I lost control of my moode :doh: ips etc didnt work... had to scrub it and try volumio. got that working. crazy old world; that moode has not blinked for an age....

after all sorts of issues volumio2 is working now and with spotify integration. Ive even managed to map the hdd connected to it(that took a while lol) not tried sending anything to it but can see it and the music on it. Win 10 last update screwed with smd etc so was locked out.

I get this with Volumio. When revisiting the Pi after 24 hours break Volumio.local/ does not work. I turn off the WiFi and then back on at the host computer and it then connects fine. Might be worth a try.

in control panel I went into widows features(in programs, turn features on/off, on left) and checked that SMB 1.0 was enabled. one of the 3 wasnt The server. so I manually did it and restarted the pc... seemed to work.
I did try other things too but think that was the one that let me map the network drive(volumio's hdd...)

You need to assign static IP's in your router settings, most provider supplied routers have the ability to change settings locked down and / or aren't as flexible when it comes to anything else than straight forward setups.
