Hi Neil

The £7K Simon Yorke turntable in the Endeavour Woodstock Audio room was delivered to them less a cartridge. Sound Hi Fi were the only exhibitor with cartridges for sale to take away. So the £7K turntable had a £100 Denon DL-103 running thorough the show. Later they bought a second DL-103 for one of their other decks. They were chuffed!

Interesting that moving Gallo production to the US has effectively doubled the rrp. What a shame. Misguided humour on past posts aside, those Gallo's look to have genuinely done something different rather than beautifully finished and presented boxes (boxes all the same).

That is a hard question to answer. I would have to say yes but in what quantities I frankly don't know.

Gallo designs have been revolutionary on so many levels. Appearance, construction and sound quality. Sadly the Chinese could not make them well enough. Gallo ended up with way to many rejects so had to abandon China. Sadly the switch to the USof A has meant the prices as you say have doubled but quality control is maintained. Gallo could not afford to keep loosing a fortune in China through badly finished speakers.

In my experience of trying to sell some 'interesting' or 'stylish' modern speakers over the years, I can say that they really don't sell in quantity.

I did try with early Gallo designs and Blue Room and a few other (dare I say) outrageous designs but ordinary customers just won't give them house room. Even the likes of Martin Logan and Magnepan are a hard sell because people want well finished boxes and the smaller the better...:doh:

Fortunately I now really only sell to 'enthusiasts' who want specialist Hi-Fi and they are not put off by big boxes but the man in the street and even more so, the lady of the house just won't put up with it....:eek:

Or sell her some ADM9.1's - small, beautifully finished in black lacquer, all in one so no unsightly boxes and a worthwhile sound to go with it. perfick!!! :)

Those who've been in retail will know how difficult it is to sell to couples, where he wants sound quality and big boxes to show off his "manhood" and she "Won't have those things in my house!"
