As a dumb ol' Gringo, I have been lucky enough to have traveled and lived abroad for a large portion of my life and I am currently living here in Baja California, Mexico. I have put together my audio gear setup from sources mainly found here between the shores of the Pacific and the Atlantic.

I am curious how those of you who have seen it from both perspectives view the main differences in audio gear setups of enthusiasts from the two sides of the Atlantic...

My CD player and preamp both come from within the Atlantic and the Pacific. The former hails from Minneapolis and the latter California. My interconnects are from Holland, the amp was built in China and is being modified in South Wales, my speakers were built in Switzerland, my stand, mains block, leads and speaker cables are all from England.

How are prices in Europe compared to what you see online here on this side of the Atlantic?

We pay more for stuff made in America and less for that made in Europe. My Bel Canto was £2400 which is about $4800. It costs $3000 in the States.

Hmmm....

Sounds like maybe there is an opportunity for somebody here to put together a business that could benefit audiophiles on both sides of the Atlantic.

Right then boys and girls. I'm going to steer this thread back to where it should be - hifi & music - with a quote from lyrics by Viv Stanshall & Neil Innes - and the truest statement ever made about politics......

Noises on the radio, megaphones on cars
Sermons from the street of shame, know-it-alls in bars
Posters in suburbia, experts on TV
Don't let them disturb-i-ya
They're just the powers that be
Hey-Ho!
Don't worry! Nobody can win! (Hey-Ho! Hey-Ho!)
No matter who you vote for, the government always gets in
Hey-Ho!

Oh great, great slumbering nation
Awake! Set yourself free
Oh! Smell the comforting bacon, taste the bromide tea
And give a little chirrup as I ladle on the syrup
Promises are cheap
Let me bear your crosses, make me boss of bosses
Then you go back to sleep (Ha ha ha)
Hey-Ho!

Don't worry! Pop your cross in the bin (Hey-Ho! Hey-Ho!)
No matter who you vote for, the government always gets in
Hey-Ho!
Hey-Ho!
Hey-Ho!
Hey-Ho!

Memories of a finer place in comfortable Shangri-La
Then they too have their Shangri-Las
Shangri-La La La!
See them in the public eye, oozing oily charm
Hear them all personify, down on Animal Farm
Dog eat dog, but cock and bull isms are the game
Ism this and ism that
Isn't it a shame!
Hey-Ho!

Don't worry! Nobody can win! (Hey-Ho! Hey-Ho!)
No matter who you vote for, the government always gets in.
Hey-Ho!
Don't worry! Pop your cross in the bin (Hey-Ho! Hey-Ho!)
No matter who you vote for, the government always gets in.
Don't worry! You know you can't win! (Hey-Ho! Hey-Ho!)
No matter who you vote for, the government always gets in
No matter who you vote for..............

Political discussions on AoS are fine in my book - in the right place.

In the right place? Aye, the bin!

Thus politics does matter..

Not to me it doesn't :ner:

I will move the political orientated crap to a separate thread in Abstract Chat. Let's get this thread back on topic (as TGW is trying to do).

Marco.

Ok, for those who want to waffle on about politics I have created a nice thread for you chaps in Abstract Chat :)

Back now to Baja's original thread topic (or at least something vaguely relating to hi-fi)...

Marco.

I didn't, but here's one I've just found for you........

It was a single by the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band released for their 1992 reunion.

Yea, it's 2:35 AM here. I stayed up to upload an 1.6GB application to a client in Sumatra and staying online to make sure it is working. Should be signing off here any minute - Just got the word that everything seems to be working. Waiting for a few more checks...

ZZZZZZZZZZZZ.......
