My Tannoys need new binding posts (one of the terminals broke off, looked like the metal had oxidised, weird?) so I'm after recommendations for suitable replacements.

I've seen these -

But am open to any suggestions. (they need to be long to go through the 17mm backboard).

Thanks very much in advance.

Hi charming Roy,

I've used these before and they are excellent. I've never found them this cheap before, I've just ordered two sets.

Roy , you can get binding posts or you can get binding posts . Aparently size matters :)

Simple rule of thumb with binding posts: If you wouldn't feel comfortable using them to moor a battleship, in a hurricane, then they aren't big enough.

I could moor a aircraft carrier with the BIG ones :)

If it's long you want these are good. I used them through 18mm birch ply.

Hi charming Roy,

I was wondering if anyone had noticed that, I've been various 'flavours' before :D

Thanks everyone for your input but Al, don't think posys will cut it

I broke the terminals off an old amp of mine, from years of over tightening. So, I soldered the speaker wires directly to the amp! Worked like a charm for 10 years or more.

Never forget - If your binding posts don’t need to be tightened using an adjustable wrench, then they’re not chunky enough.

Old ones certainly were, took a hacksaw to get them off the backboard. There was some sort of strange allen key arrangement to hold the wires in (no soldering & they'd left an allen key bit in one) but these allen keys had part of the thread of the bolt on them so unless the thread lined up the nuts wouldn't go over them!

Ordered some of those chinese ones, they'll be here sometime next year I think [emoji3]

In the meantime I got a pair of these

A little pricey but I needed to make sure they'd go through the back board. Fitted them today, very solid & it's nice to have the boys back in action.

I really like the look of these mundorf posts, but they cost a fortune

Just a quick update, the Chinese binding posts referenced by Alan (Firebottle) have just arrived and they’re actually better than the ones I paid a tenner for two for so if you don’t mind waiting a few more days they’re definitely the ones to go for.

Alan

These look like the ones on my Krell amp. Nice! Tough as hell, no wrench needed to crank down on them. Spade only though.

I presently use the CMC gold plated Copper binding posts like the ones above and they are very good except that the out plastic sometimes cracks and they slip so a bit of superglue is needed to fix them
