Indeed - it was more of a strip down / clean type job than anything highly technical but very satisfying to see when done!

looks like you had a couple of SME arms fitted, looking at the wiring look, possibly some original SME RCA's? They go for silly money in Japan.

This was a sentimental system so was left as-is. It was clearly not ideal from a acoustic perspective as it was very microphonic through the cabinet but I added some rubber isolation which helped somewhat.

Well spotted! It had two SME3009, one was the early version and other the later. One was decommissioned (I can't quite recall why, it wasn't broken just needed a few bits) and a new cartridge was fitted to the other, which worked very nicely indeed.

The plinth as shown is remarkably flimsy - I'm not surprised it's microphonic. Having gone to the trouble of successfully 'rebuilding' the 301, I don't uderstand why you should not want to rebuild the plinth using, say, 3/4" chipboard with strong bracing. Leave it 'bottomless' so as to eliminate box mode resonances, and experiment with some sound deadening material around the sides.

Nothing wrong with the SME plugs as shown. They are the later version with a 'spring' cable gland and do have a shorter centre pin, but none the worse for it. I would leave them as they are. The arm selector switch does look a bit 'iffy'; I would either change it with a good quality version (Seiden) or remove it completely and fit the SME plugs to the rest of the arm cable.
