Thanks mate.
I’ve not even wired them in yet , just enjoying the moment.[emoji1303]

Mine weren't used with appropriate amps I now think (this is thirty years ago now when they cost £450 used) and the 'synthetic' colourations I had were almost certainly mostly the speakers being strangled!
Good luck with them (again?)

I have found that you have to have the right amp for these ( now I remember!!) or they are just fatiguing ( my opinion)
I was using my radford Auditoriums which I believe sound so much better, I just wish that looked as cool as these .

Possibly the coolest speakers ever made. Always wanted some.
People do say that the best match are Yamaha's own amps of the same era. Makes some logical sense at least.
Well guess what I’ll be looking out for next ? That could be a long search too.

Prefer the auditoriums by far

Me too sound wise as they blow the yams away !
If the radfords weren’t so valuable I’d tinker a bit to make them look cool too.

Yes - I can't understand what all the fuss is with the appearence of The Yamaha speakers. I don't think they look "cool" at all. :sofa:

But looks aren't everything. I've not heard them myself, but since they were developed by Yamaha as monitors for NHK. they ought to sound good.
I have the grills too which are in perfect condition , I’ll never use them but there is an issue where the plugs on the grills are no longer tight in the baffles , any ideas anyone?

Yeah you better stay behind that settee anorl.
Of course they are the coolest speaker ever. Second coolest is those Whafedales Gambit off of 'The New Avengers' has in his pad. You only see them once. Can't remember the model. Anyway, everyone knows this.

Surely all speaker designers think theirs are cool ? They have to be in order to draw attention

No, the coolest speakers ever were the Braun LE1s, made under licence from Quad.

But they do look cool. They remind me of Lockwoods and you can't get much cooler than that! :D

No. They're restyled Quad electrostatics.
Actually, all Braun speakers are cool (and Telefunkens)
Uh excuse me ...https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180626/d1ca7a9d4b1c025290c9691cdcc0f681.png

Ah well - "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". ;)
Actually, the coolest speaker ever made is the original and huge Tannoy GRF Autograph 15 MG horns! Nothing else comes close!! :D

You'll probably need about forty grand for these fifty year old speakers though.
Yeah they’re pretty cool

Meh - wouldn't look out of place in the ballroom of the Overlook (Kubrick: The Shining) but "cool"? ... not in a million years -
The Braun speakers Barry posted are proper cool, only at home in a penthouse overlooking a chic Parisian boulevard .....
As most agree I do believe the Yams win it in the cool stakes given their very reasonable price ? My last pair were £150 ! And that was 2 years ago [emoji848]

You stole them at gunpoint then felt a bit guilty as you were leaving and bunged him whatever cash you had in your pocket?

It’s a long story and it involved a 7 hour drive ( one way ) ! £500 in pocket and 20minutes from his house he calls to say one of the bass drivers sounds funny [emoji35][emoji35]
I continued to his home ready to inflict a whole lot of whoop ass when a spotty faced lad answers the door looking absolutely terrified , he apologised but still had the nerve to ask for £150!!
I couldn’t get them in the van quick enough.

Andy, I pulled the plastic plugs for the grills using a hooked piece of silver solder, pushed them back into shape using a small socket from the back. Reinstalled plugs, grills now fit snug like new!
Good tip mate , it don’t currently use the grills but it bugs me that some of them are lose .
Cheers

On the advice of an AOS member I added a minimal tweak by replacing the old tweeter capacitor, what a difference this has made [emoji16]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180714/d5b1ddfe3bfeaefec9b5ef26dfaa51ab.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180714/a264b97428ebcd2ccbb219429f6a2cc4.jpg
