Thank you Microsoft for the Windows 10 April Update! Took ages to install, laptop now boots up even slower and thanks for removing 'homegroup' which was an easy shortcut for me to quickly connect to Linux servers...now I have to map to them and had to go into services settings to get a small degree of functionality back!

Similar experience here. Had to do a shitload of Googling to find how to mend the settings it had ****ed up.

I use Linux on everything thing else but unfortunately there are some programs which run on windows that I would miss and despite the above it's still easier for samba shares

Just unbelievable what these so called genius experts can do to us on the back of what is supposed to be an improvement.

How many times have these updates (more like upsets!) caused instability and proper inconvenience.

My very new at the time Lenovo All in One PC literally ground to a halt after I reluctantly installed Windows 10, after constant bombardment by Microsoft to do so.

Was the biggest relief ever when i finally managed to get it off and stay Windows 8.1.

Regardless and all said and done. The PC went back to running perfectly smooth and hasn't missed a beat in the years since and thats all that matters to me and the household as far as we're concerned.

I've made a point of sticking with W7. When (if) that eventually becomes unusable I'll go to Linux.

I moved to Apple several years back. You cant do everything that can be done on a Windows PC, but for what I use a computer for these days I can do everything I need to. Yes they are more expensive but the modern Macs keep current for years, unlike the older ones that tended to become obsolete a bit too quick. Also by the time you find a PC with the same build quality and same performance screen, your not paying too much more anyway IMO.

I dont like updates because they essentially have a route into my equipment to do whatever the hell they like.

They have just "updated" the 360 but the main gist of it is to remind us again to buy an xbox one. Ive lost certain picture thumbnails in my online game menu and dotted the menu with information I already know and didnt want to see. It basically adds up to buy an xbox one now because youve taken too long you shirkers.

I shouldnt have accepted the update but they get round natural suspicion by saying it fixes minor bugs which Ive never noticed and may be just fibs to get other aspects of the change installed

There is nothing in the update that has benefitted me and its just shut down some of the good feeling about the console because they know that a lot of people are still using them and buying the cheap S/H games.

I shouldnt have accepted the "update". Its a word associated with positivity but can often be used take backward steps which spoil my experience

Ain't that the truth, bro! Switching to a Mac was one of the best things I've done. Once you get used to the operating system, which in reality is piss-easy and much more intuitive than that of a PC, there's no going back to an inferior (in so many ways) Windoze machine.

I remember when Windows first came out and I was looking at it and thinking 'What do we need all this shit for?' I found it really hard to adjust to it from DOS.


XP Pro was the best and nearly everyone on the planet agrees with that statement. Can't see why they don't just go back to that for the next one.

As the Mac OS is Linux based I would have thought quite well.Not necessarily so, it isn't easy doing sharing between Linux based machines. I can access my vortexbox files from my Linux Mint laptop but streaming them is difficult, not so with Windows.

Just to show the other side, I have binned all my Mac stuff and gone back to windows 10 on all 4 of my machines as its so easy and quick. Finally gave up with Apple after the four hundred and ninety second time it asked my for at least 3 different passwords to change anything.......

Never had that problem with mine, Nick - but then I rarely change anything! :)

Apart from posting here and using the Internet, my laptop is used for sending emails, a little shopping and some music streaming, although that's almost non-existent now, since I've gone the OSMC/Kodi route.

Therefore, I just like something that's piss-easy to use, for a non-computer geek, looks good (with great graphics and sound), is built well and reliable - and less prone to viruses. For me, a Mac ticks those boxes better than any PC I've used.

Not had any problems with W10, which is a lot easier than the W7 installed on this laptop from new. W10 even allows me to connect to the printer, which I've not been able to do previously. Having said that, after the last revision, I have now l lost the Pound sign and the @ is where the " should be and vice versa.

check your regional keyboard. may have switched to america.. bottom right where it says eng. hover over and it should say english uk and uk keyboard

One thing I do find a total ballache with Apple is that iTunes doesn’t recognise FLACC files, which is what 95% of my NAS stored music is. Getting music on to my iphone is past the point where I want to spend time setting up a work around.

Just why not have a FLACC codec.

Re the posts above, where my keyboard was in the US mode rather than UK - it seems to do this 1 in 3 times after shutdown. I can now easily switch it back to UK but it's annoying. Any ideas ?

Click the Start menu and select Settings. Select Time & language. Click Region & language in the left column. Under Languages click the language you want as default and click Set as default.
