Our main room is sixteen feet long by thirteen feet wide and I have a stonking great pair of Dali Suite 2.8's in there along with other domestic furniture. They look stoopid and probably don't sound at their best. I am therefore toying with the idea of selling the Dali's and getting a pair of Tannoy DC4's. I already have stands from an earlier pair of speakers so I don't need to add that to the equation. If I could get two hundred quid for the Dali's I would have a buget of around five hundred. Any thoughts...?
I am looking for a stunning stereo effect and greater resolution/detail.

If that's what you're looking for,I'd be looking at a full-range DIY design such as the Fonken.I can put you in touch with someone who would build you a pair.Full-rangers have a coherency that mutli-driver speakers lack IMO.Great soundstaging too.

Ali, the only real reason I chose the DC4 is because they use the point source Tannoy driver which should in theory give a superior stereo image. I find these days that I spend a lot less time listening to bass heavy techno and tend to listen to music of a much higher 'quality'. I used to own and loved my Rogers LS3/5a's for their stereo image but I couldn't live with their level of tizz and fizz. Most of my listening is from vinyl which I find is superior in imaging anyway so I am already a little of the way there. I am also of course considering my partner in this as well and the fact that more than one metre high speakers need plenty of room to be allowed to breathe and therefore look rather clumsy in a small room. Thanks for your input. I'll see how the thread progresses.

Not sure how much the dc4 is,but I reckon you could have a diy speakers that at least equals them and more likely is far better than them.

I reckon you'd get at least £300 on ebay for the Dalis - probably more.

Ali

I was thinking of the Chillinghams - have you heard them yet ?
When Colin had a get together back end of last year they were used for most of the day, just because the sound was so good and the Chillinghams didn't do anything obviously wrong.
