What the boy is up to..

Apologies in advance for me being the proud dad (as I am for all my kids)..

My youngest son Nathan has always been (well, since he was 12) a bass player. It's something he's been working on since then to become a professional musician living in probably what is one the hardest and most competitive cities in the world, London.

He's already done a lot of gigging early on, he's had a moderately successful band in his teens (Radio One, 6Music, European Tours in Support of big acts). He's worked a lot of freebies, function bands and 'favours for mates', while working in a bar to supplement his income.

Like many musicians out there, he's put in the hard slog, networking and getting himself known on the circuit.

This week, that hard slog seems to be paying off. He was phoned up and asked to audition for bass player for an emerging new artist Lily Moore. Well he got the gig and is now on a European Tour with Lily Moore supporting James Bay.

He facetimed me last night from backstage just before going on at The Roundhouse. :-)

Whilst the setup at the moment is a small and intimate threesome, it would seem that big plans are in the wings for Lily Moore (who's dad was none other than Gary Moore from Thin Lizzy etc)...

Can't wait to see what's next in store....

Well, he’s having a fun day today, having played a great set on the main stage with Ward Thomas. He’s also got to chat with Shawn Colvin backstage and has just texted me to say he’s just been shaking hands with the legend that is Steve Gadd! [emoji119]

I’m really pleased for him as he knows and really appreciates all of these musicians.

Meeting the likes of Shawn Colvin and Steve Gadd means as much to him as it would for me and that’s a really nice feeling.

Him and his musician friends are a constant reminder to me that there is an upcoming generation of musicians who appreciate the legacy of the giants that have come before them. Long may it continue. [emoji4]

He’s playing at Omeara in London with Lily Moore on her headline tour tonight but he recorded this with Jordan Mackampa.

My youngest lad Nathan on bass/backing vocs and his good friend Dan Tredgold on guitar. Their own band “Depression, baby” are going to be doing good things in the coming year.

He did a couple of live sets for two British Country acts at the C2C at the O2 a few weeks back.

One was for his friend Laura Oakes, the other for Jade Helliwell.

Both are up and coming stars on the country scene.

The sets were pretty much on the fly, with no real opportunity for rehearsal or even soundcheck.

He’s also been busy with his own band Depression, Baby. They’ve had a couple of well-received gigs in London and are looking to release their latest single in the next couple of weeks (he just dropped me the completed mix this evening).

Lots going on lately. He’s been on The One Show and Strictly Takes Two with Louise Redknapp and is now on tour with Lily Moore supporting Tom Walker.

Will see if I can dig out some footage of the Lily Moore set as they are going down really well with the audience. Her recent singles with Maverick Sabre and Dan Caplan have been top notch.

Well, attended what may well be the last concert for quite some time now that it looks likely any large gatherings are going to be a no no.

Final opening set for Lily Moore on the James Arthur Arena Tour at Manchester Arena on Saturday 14th March.

Had Access All Areas pass which was great for a little tour of the maze and had a nice drink and chat with Nathe, Lily, Beau and Mike backstage after their set.

Then we had to head off back to Liverpool and leave them to recover after a hard couple of weeks on the road.

*Not too much of a rest though, as Lily was on Sunday Brunch on Channel 4 this morning performing live with Beau.
