In a fit of pique I recently swapped out some posh mains cables I had acquired over the years including Chord Company and Isotek. I put the supplied kettle leads back in and couldn't hear a blind bit of difference. I flogged them and pre-ordered a couple of vinyl box sets. Result. To be honest I was happier when the mains cables were hard wired into the various components. Surely less mechanical connections has to be better? Not missing the cables which cost me a bloody fortune and hidden away behind my kit in the least. Cables out, music In!

Hard wired cables the logical choice. How could multiple connections ever beat fewer?

But,but,
IEC type cables are easier to unhook and clean if (for example) your wife had a small yipping shit machine/puppy
with a fondness for bowel evacuation near your precious gear.....

To pick an scenario entirely at random etc...

My Local hifi emporium was always trying to fob me off with super extra special thick heavy wondrous stupendously sonically superior mains cables and the like. Thankfully after our last run in I doubt I'll ever have that problem again!

I have thick mains cable. It's marked British Rail and three inches thick. And that's only single core, so I need to run three for each item. It's a bugger to fit a plug to! :D

Placed order for TT RCM Cart etc ...paid up front.....was still waiting 9 months or so later for order to be fulfilled. To cut a long and torturous story short I was lucky to have paid by credit card so I ended up getting them to sort it out under section 75.

9 months! Even if they were building the TT to order it wouldn't take that long.

It was a Michell Gyro....and believe me I was in constant contact with Michell throughout the whole debacle so I knew exactly who was up to what lol. Suffice to say my choices for local HiFi are now rather limited.

You must have amazing patience, Steve. I'd have been getting a full refund from them after six weeks, max!

What on earth was the reason for that ridiculous delay?

I have the patience of a saint lol. Up to a point. I had gone down the line of 'full refund' but as I had no receipt of purchase itemising all components the card company said I effectively had no contract.

So I had a Turntable and Arm fitted with an Ortofon Quintet black cart. No receipts for any of these nor was there any serial numbers or packaging for the cart which I found very suss! The RCM arrived ok. The HR power supply was conspicuous in it's absence.

Eventually I agreed to call it a day on delivery of missing items, full itemised receipts, cart packaging and serials as well as a little compensation for my trouble in the form of a credit note.

I sent a workmate in with the credit note and he picked up a pair of Bluetooth Headphones for me.

So at present I have all items and am happy with the sound.

I have to say that Michell were polite, truthful and professional each time I called them and have kindly offered to deal directly with me in the future if necessary.
Henley Designs were also very helpful in sorting me out with my worries re cart registration and warranty.

The world is a smaller place these days and it is very easy to be a detective lol.

I'm guessing the dealer had not paid his previous bill with Michell and they put him on stop?

TBH I could care less about that particular dealer and doubt they'll last!

I'm currently loving the setup though I now have a hankering for a go with a Sugden amp and possibly an upgrade from my current ProAcs .....it ever ends.

I remember seeing a punter be charged £130 :eek: for a meter of green cable allowing him to make this
magical upgrade , This was at the Whittlbury show and sold by MCRU

Well, someone needs to stand up for audiophile mains cables. :wave:

I likes them - and hear differences. Some differences are good, others are not to my taste.

These days, though, I have ditched the more expensive stuff and have been happy for a couple of years or more now with Belden 19364 cables suitably terminated. Typically around £40 a shot.

Been around the block (and back) a few times with mains cables, most of the usual suspects, homebrew efforts and now happy and settled with some foo American wires.

Got a free one from a Dealer, a big enough improvement to make me investigate further up the range with my own hard earned.

Depending on the rest of the kit, these things can make a real difference imo.

IME mains cables make a substantial difference. I'm awaiting my trip back to the UK to collect a full Coherent 6D loom of cables, including for the mains.

One for the mains conditioner.

One for the power amp.

One for the DAC.

And one as a spare, as one day I'll move to monoblocks :).
