FS: JBL 4312B Control Monitors- incredible condition

I have recently purchased these from Oldius (Geoff) of this parish. “Refer to original post” and are in the finest condition I have ever seen (As good as new) “completely unmarked”.

The reason for the quick turnaround is that my small room doesn’t do them justice and they deserve a better home to realise their true potential.

Hailing from the late 1980’s and are in truly amazing condition, as the photographs show. Also they has also been recapped to the original specification by the previous owner and are technically and cosmetically outstanding.

The asking price is £1350 (same price as I paid) and included in the sale are the truly heavyweight custom stands pictured (some 60kg).

I won’t go into what they sound like.... just to say the majority of the recording studios of the 1980’s used these monitors as the speaker of choice and some still do to this day.

Also included are spare grills (in Black, in case the burnt orange doesn’t do it for you).

Unfortunately, these are pickup only and I don’t have a vehicle that could accommodate the speakers & stands.

Can't afford them sadly, but nearly bought a pair of 'C's new in the early noughties (I bloody should have done, looking back :( ) but I think by then they'd gone to a crackle industrial paint finish rather than satin black...

They do need pulling out a bit away from corners and possibly walls too, tweeters on the inside I think? If you could get 'em further forward, have you tried lifting the mid and tweet pots in level a bit? That's what they're there for guv'nor... ;)

I do hope someone can buy them and really enjoy them as I believe the squawk and screech of the old 4310/L100 had long gone by this time. I believe they like powerful open, *lively* solid state amps rather than valve, soft toned or lower powered jobbies, despite their sensitivity. Martin Colloms rated the domestic version (4310mk2?) with a Krell 300i integrated I seem to remember.

Thanks for the advice. But just don’t suit my room!! It’s a bit sparse, lots of hard surfaces to reflect sound. Really must do something about it!

But they will be good for someone with nice soft furnishings.

This would be the same for all speakers , How are the speakers mounted on the stands ? and the stands onto the floor ?
They do look like they need pulling forward , Can you put up a curtain on a rail on the opposite wall ? for sofening the wall reflections

Its a shame you need to sell them :(

I’m am / was an audio sound engineer “ now retired” and worked for many recording studios in the past, so I guess I know how to position and damp speakers.

My current speakers (Revolvers) work because they are not control monitors but full range units and are much less susceptible to room reflections. (Not perfect..... but work in my environment ).

Forgive me, but I was living in the past and thought these would work in my room, but they do need soft furnishings..... which I don’t have.

Lovely speakers though!! And in mint condition....a lucky person on Ebay will be very happy.

No need to shut up.... we all have an opinion, and advice to add !!

These speakers, the JBL 4312B, are the finest example I’ve seen in 30 years. Like new!!! And very proud to own them, even if for a short while.

P.S. My ATC100A's of yore came with black lacquer cabinets and bright red grilles a similar shade to yours so seeing these brought back very fond memories. I simply can't - I'm so sorry :(

I imported these from the States a few years ago and they are the best of the JBLs that I have owned. Having moved to a much smaller house recently, I simply needed to sell some stuff on and downsize. They are in unbelievable condition and sound incredible. I demonstrated them at Scalford in 2017 to some acclaim on AOS and PFM and since then, they have had the crossovers recapped to original specification. They are technically perfect and should give anyone who buys them decades of enjoyment. Peter is such a lovely chap too!

Just noticed that they are still on my signature too! I need to sort that.
