There is a pair for sale near me , knobs on the top are missing. I could have them looking like new but are they popular?

They are too rare to be popular. Would be an interesting renovation though. if you can get them back to near mint there would probably be a vintage collector who would be interested in having them.

Worth having just for the bass drivers. The mid will be a little lacking in resolution, but the tweeters are actually pretty good. They'll make a decent sound though. Hope they're cheap! :)

The Japanese go potty over sixties British speakers, but personally, I'd not pay more than say eighty quid.

Oh. And they're probably 15 or 16 ohm and highly efficient, so ideal for use with low power valve amps.

Buy them cheap for the bass drivers. Pair those with cheap compression drivers and big horn flares and you have pretend Altecs!

Poor power handling. They can sound nice in the right cabinets, but 'pop' at the slightest excuse! I've done it. :D

W3s were my first experience of hifi when I went round to a Maida Vale flat to buy a Jason amplifier in about '63/'64. The chap put on The Grand March from Aida; it blew my friend and me away. No going back from there ! They were the top model of the W series, I think.
