Well, after a bit (a lot) of chopping & changing & faffing about, I think I'm quite happy, although I firmly believe that a man can never have too many pairs of speakers. Please sir, can I have some more.

Sys 1 - 2 channel

Yamaha CD-S 1000 cd player

Yamaha A-S 2000 amplifier

Usher CP-6381 speakers

Albido, JPS Labs and Audioquest cables

System 2 - multichannel gaming/movies/music dvd's/etc

My own build mentally overspecced gaming PC (yup, I'm a geek)

Marantz DV-7600

Denon AVC-A1SR

Usher S-520 (fronts)

Usher S525 (centre)

Q Acoustics 1020i (side rears)

Wharfedale Diamond 5 (back rears)

Mordant Short Avant 309i sub

JPS Labs, Audioquest, Chord, Cabletalk and QED cables

(Front pre outs from the Denon amp linked to the power amp "in" on the Yamaha amp so I can call on the big Ushers for a bit of muscle if required)

Amps and CDP are sat on a large slab of acrylic mounted on large squidgy sorbothane feet.

Nice!
I'm so glad Yamaha resurrected that look.
.........If I can remove the sword from the PC chassis do I get to claim the throne?

Yeh I love look of the Yammy kit, built like a brick outhouse too.

If you manage to remove the sword you get to use the loo anytime (oh, wrong throne, sorry) ;)

Hi Mart,

Lovely system! :)

I too loved the look of the Yamaha kit when I first saw it - it ticks all the right boxes for me with its solidly engineered construction and cool retro looks

How would you describe its sound?

Marco.

Hi Marco

Your right, its certainly solidly engineered, the amp comes in at 22.7 kg and the cdp comes in at 15.2 kg, huge power supplies and very rigid and damped chassis, but its got that "good to touch" feel to it as well.

Although its still behind the big Denon, which comes in about 30 kg, so I try not to want to move it about much :) (rate this highly too, its bloody good at everything, never heard any av amp play music so well).

The sound from the Yammy stuff?

I've usually found that kit that sounds as open and detailed as this tends to chuck it all in your face, but it doesn't, it stays smooth and controlled, which suits me fine. Although a bad recording is bad recording and it lets you know.

I think Yamaha have done a cracking job on their re-entry to the two chan market, but these are that good for the money that they have to be loss leaders, I bet you a fiver their next offerings cost a considerable lump more.

Anyhoo, enough trumpeting, back to the music.

If anyone is thinking of going for Yamaha's offerings, check out Peter Tysons website, they're discounting like crazy, but if you order dont do it online, do it by phone and check stock.

Thanks for the comments guys.
