Sadly Garfield, as he was named, was hit by a car around 9.15pm this evening, and died pretty well instantly.
I'm just thankful that he literally didn't know what hit him.

That really saddens me, Chris, as Garfield looks so much like the Leo, the ginger tom cat we lost just after Christmas (he went out then and hasn't come home since).

Anyway, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. We seem to be doing well this year so far with pets belonging to people here being killed in accidents.... Let's hope that trend stops now :(

Take it easy, buddy.

Marco.

Really sorry to hear the sad news Chris (and that Leo never returned, Marco... :()

One of the reasons I won't have another cat is the pain of losing them.

As of yesterday we have a new addition to the household.
He's an 8 week old bundle of fluff, named Timmy.
It hasn't eased the pain of losing Garfield, but it has shifted the focus of the whole sad affair.

I'll post a piccy soon.

Thanks for all the support everyone - it's appreciated.

What a beautiful cat, cute as a button and no doubt will get up to mischief.

I think that was the best move, to get another cat.

Thanks Neil

He's sat tight up to my leg at the moment, having a little doze.
He also loves to touch and to be touched, which is a bit of a pain today as I'm trying to get some costings sorted out for a few jobs, and he's constantly attempting to get cuddled or played with or be fed - not that I'm complaining.

Absolutely gorgeous, Chris! What's his or her name? :)

Marco.

Stratmangler

His name is Timmy - my son chose it.

The intention is to keep Timmy indoors - he will not miss what he does not know.
The road outside has killed quite a few cats over the years, and this little fellah is not going to add to the statistics.

Nice one, Chris. Timmy is a real little cutie! [Insert awww smiley here] :)

We'll hopefully be adding to our cat family again soon, also with a ginger tom kitten, to replace Leo.

I wish you the best of luck in trying to keep Timmy indoors. We had the same plan for our cats, under an identical premise of 'they can't miss what they don't know'.

Unfortunately however, when they grow up, the innate desire of nature takes over and then they simply insist on investigating the outside world.

Marco.

How can someone get the wrong impression.Me,for example.:)

Hi Robert,

The key distinction there is that the '+' appeared before the '2', and not after it ;)

Regards,

Lazy shorthand for agreeing with what Marco had written. Neil had also expressed concurrence with Marco's sentiment, with his '+1'. I saw this thread later so I wrote '+2'.

We do seem to have had a spate of losing beloved pets of late, and it seems to have been a distressing experience for many members of AoS.

Delighted to read about Timmy- he does look a 'cute bundle of fluff'.

Sorry for your loss, Chris. It's a terrible feeling losing a loved pet when the cause is natural, doubly sad when it's an accident. He looked a lovely fellah.

Timmy is coming on fine.
In between the eating and playing and exploring there's a lot of this taking place, usually cuddled up to someone.

Sorry to heat about your loss. We had to have our 12 year old cat put to sleep last year. Its taken this long to get over loosing her so I know how you must have felt.

Timmy looks absolutely gorgeous though. I forsee much mischief ahead.
