lovely clear blue skies today, but currently only 2C. should warm up a fair bit tho.
Been nice and dry/sunny here all day, but rather nippy out of the sun!

10C, gloomy grey sky and pouring rain. I think they've recycled January for us.
Rather pleasant day here in Wrexham, dry and mild, as long as you don't go out of the sun! :)
Just come back with my dad (treated him to lunch), from having a rather excellent eggs benedict with fresh salmon and streaky bacon [the poached eggs were done to perfection], washed down with a superb double espresso, at a newly opened (licensed) cafe in Wrexham, called Lot 11:

Blue sky, sunshine, 18 degrees and rising.
half that here and cloudy going on overcast. supposed to get a bit warmer
Cold and overcast here currently just nudging 6 degree, my missus has the central hearting on.
It's been a beautiful day here in the SE. Blue skies and 21C.
Going to be fine over the weekend and predicted to be 27C on Monday. Something must have gone wrong - this is not the usual Bank Holiday weather we have come to expect. :D

Not a cloud in the sky here in Wrexham - blue all the way... It's gonna be a scorcher! Looking forward to a Bank Holiday weekend of great weather, with lots of barbecues, cocktails and ice-cold Prosecco!! :cool::cheers:

Gorgeous day here in North Oxfordshire, feeling pretty good, will treat the Mrs to a drink and ice cream as she's working overtime today.

Supposedly will be the warmest May Day bank holiday since 1977.

Hopefully tomorrow will as nice, as we're doing a car boot in the morning. Or rather Mrs. P will be selling our old crap while I mooch round buying new crap to replace it :)

Lol... Both! Although last time we went shopping there I had a lovely piri-piri chicken in their restaurant. The beer they sell in their shop is also rather nice, as is the salmon Gravadlax, which is top quality:)

In the low twenties already. I've got the doors open so I can sit in the garden while streaming tunes from The Mighty Diamonds and Augustus Pablo. Probably akin to playing Dido and the Prodigy together, but I don't care.
Something about warm sunshine and reggae, just works for me. :)

We're up to 25°C now! Just finished setting the table and preparing the wines for lunch... It's my dad's 85th birthday on Tuesday, but he's flying out to Italy with some friends tomorrow, for a fortnight, so we're doing his birthday meal today :)
Starting off with a small portion of eggs Benedict, on crusty sour-dough toast, with fresh asparagus and smoked salmon, followed by some Gloucestershire 'Old Spot' pork chops, from our local butcher, which have been marinated in fresh garlic, lemon juice and rosemary, and which will then be simply barbecued and cooked to a nice colour.
Plenty of veg, as usual, because of Del being a veggie (and my dad and I also love veg). There's fresh spinach, cauliflower cheese, rosemary-roasted new potatoes, buttered baby carrots and celeriac mash.
Dessert will be a home-made fresh fruit salad, which has been marinating overnight in some Coeur de Comte orange liqueur, and that will be served inside some hewn-out fresh pineapples, accompanied by a rather nice Tokaji dessert wine (lightly chilled), and followed with double espressos.
Hopefully he should enjoy that! :cool:

I lived in the suburbs once and the mowing used to drive me nuts. The neighbour must have had an obsession or had nothing better to do. Always mowing. Even his cat spent most of its time at my house or in my garden just to get away from it. After 3 months I couldn't take it any more and moved back to a house in the ghetto. That backed onto a factory with forklifts beeping all the time and lots of crashing and smashing, it was still less irritating than the mowing.

The temperature has now topped 27C (80F) and still rising. Should be at its hottest about 2pm. 30C maybe?

It's very hot here in Camden/West Hampstead, London. Easily 25 degC plus : too hot for me to venture outside. We have all the windows wide open, Tabu Ley Rochereau (a Zairian traditional singer) playing on the system, I'm wearing my African shirt (very colourful!), shorts - and even inside I'm still too hot!
It's going to get hotter ........

The outside area of the garden where we eat has been kept under shade all day, so it's fine there, which is where I'm currently sipping an ice-cold beer. In the house, the curtains are drawn [best way of keeping the sun out] and the windows are open, and with nice stone floors in the lounge, is pretty cool.
Might still get the electric fan out later, though!

My doctor hardly knows me, neither does my local greengrocer, but I get a card every Christmas from Greggs.
Currently 24 deg here, but I've left Mrs. P in the garden with my Makita radio. I hurt my back at work last week, and I can't get comfortable out there. So I've come inside while the Ibuprofens kick in, then I'll go back out.
Nightmare, mate. I sympathise with anyone that suffers from continual pain. I had enough of that (in a chronic way) when I had a spinal tumour, now thankfully removed, which was like someone stabbing you in the back with a knife, 24/7...
Only Tramadol, and latterly Morphine, allowed me to cope with the pain. It was horrendous! Sometimes a right good drink is as good as anything else, as long as it doesn't clash adversely with your medication. Anyway, look after yourself! :)
This is currently my favourite beer, which I get from the local Polish supermarket [lots of Poles in Wrexham]:

Cheers Marco, and I'll look out for that beer. We have lots of Poles in Preston, but unfortunately not many pole dancers. Certainly not many that you would want to see upside down on a pole. If you're daft enough to give them a tip, you just push it into one of the folds.:D
My favourite is a Bulgarian beer called Kamenitza, but I think drinking it under a parasol while looking out at the Black Sea may have something to do with it. I bought some promotional ones from an Aldi in Ayr last year. Having to chuck some away because they'd gone past their expiry date says it all really.

Could have done with a jacket while I was out earlier. I actually put the heating on for half an hour, the house was getting pretty cool.
Cold and blowing a gale here.
Can't we all club together and buy a Caribbean island? Cuba would be big enough and it's in a bit of a state so I can't see them wanting much for it.

Must have picked mine up yesterday whilst I was out in West Hampstead rooting through charity shops looking for LPs. Was successful: found 10 classical LPs in very good condition for next to nothing, but because it had started out fine I just went out in shirt sleeves, which was in retrospect probably insufficient.
And as someone who enjoys disgustingly rude health, the merest 'sniffle' gets me down.
As always, there's a country mile between official and actual.
That was my point. No point in expecting summer weather in May! ;)

Yes, same here - not the best. However, that's what life is like in the UK: putting up with changeable weather... Doesn't bother me; I just take it as it comes:)
Oh, and at least it's safe, and free from earthquakes and hurricanes....
Plus, if I have to choose between sweltering uncomfortably in the heat (as is the case when we experience temperatures here approaching 30°C) , in a country not set-up to manage it properly, and feeling a little cold, the later wins every time!

However, I doubt it was because of going out in shirt sleeves. It's a bit of an 'old wives tale' that you get a cold from being caught in the rain or not wrapping up warmly enough. That might make you more susceptible to catching one, but it won't GIVE you a cold, which is simply virus related - so you have to catch the virus!;)

A while ago (around 1977), I lent my copy of "Captain Fantastic" to my grandma. A few months later I went to get it back. "It's on the radiogram" she said. It had so much dust on it, it was matt grey.
"Blimey gran, you've got it a bit dusty!"
"Oh it just needs a quick wipe", and she furiously rubbed at it with the sleeve of her cardigan. The sound of the buttons on her cuff rattling on the disc was not music to my ears. I ended up buying a new copy, and re-lent her the old one. But I never told her why.
Even in those days, with my BSR Macdonald turntable, I still had standards.
That old Elton John record was still ten times better than anything I've seen in our charity shops.

I'm very selective:
The records have to be properly presented (i.e. vertical in a box that is not over stuffed, nor too large so the LPs are leaning against one another at a precarious angle). I won't even look at LPs that are piled one on top of another;

Any scratches, no matter how fine (and you need to inspect the record in a good light to see them), will almost certainly cause me to reject the record.
I find that the only records that pass all of the above are of 'classical' music, as previous owners tend to look after them better than owners of more popular genres (bit of a sweeping generalisation maybe, but one born out by experience).
After all that, I may occasionally reject a performance by an unknown soloist or ensemble and/or conductor, but the attraction for me is to experience different performances/interpretation of a composition: sometimes I have stumbled across a recording of a performance by someone unknown to me which has turned out to have been a delightful surprise.
So far, so good - recently I have bought about 30 LPs in very, very good to excellent condition for no more than £1 apiece, but I expect these 'gold seams' will soon be depleted.
I'm very selective:

That's pretty much identical to my selection criteria, although I've got nothing against recordings produced on the SAGA label; indeed I have some excellent ones, so you might wish to re-evaluate that one!;)
Have a look at when the classical recordings in question (on SAGA) were produced. If they were before the mid 1970s, especially during the late 50s/early 60s, then chances are they'll be superb. Even the Reader's Digest stuff is worth looking at, if the recordings were produced for them by one of the respected labels you mention, which is often the case, if you real the small print....
Also, I *will* go through records piled one on top of another, as they may not have been stored that way for long, and there could be some hidden gems among them, as indeed I've discovered in the past. No, I search thoroughly through *everything* that's there, so I don't miss anything good:)

Fair enough, Barry. I always check every pile of records, regardless of how they're stacked, as you just never know what you'll find...
I remember one time down in Surrey, when I was visiting Speedy Steve, to get the ebony armboard made for my T/T, and I while he was doing that I had a couple of hours to kill, so took the car out, and not far from Steve's house was an old antiques shop, brim full of stuff - you could hardly move...
And round the back in a dusty annex there were bundles of records, stored in various ways, some vertically inside boxes, but many were just piled up on the floor, some inside inner and outer sleeves, and some just inside inner ones. I spent nearly two hours there and came out with over 100 albums, mostly classical (for a £1 each), some of which were rare Decca 'black' labels (also Columbia and HMV), from the late 50s/early 60s - and wait for it - those were just lying piled up on top of each other....!
However, taking them out of their sleeves, underneath a layer of light dust, revealed the fact that they were mint, and probably never played!:eyebrows: They certainly came up beautifully on the record cleaner, and sounded stunning. So my advice is, if you have the patience, look through *everything*, because you never know what you'll find :exactly:

This situation seems grossly unfair, and needs to be addressed...
We will give Wales to the Scottish people. Things would get a bit overcrowded, so we're going to move the Welsh out and chuck 'em on Anglesey. Obviously we anticipate some resistance, so we will arm the Scots, so they may effectively patrol and police the Menai Strait.
This plan could well work, certainly seems to have for Israel :)

Anyway, be prepared for another emotional roller-coaster ride. I fancy Livepool's chances, but Real Madrid going for their third CL win in a row [which is just nuts] worries me, as they'll be massively motivated to do so.
Plus, they have the mental toughness and winning mentality (as well as the skill) to win such huge tournaments. They're used to it, which unfortunately Liverpool aren't to the same degree.
However, it could be the year for Kloppo to get his just reward for how well he's been developing Liverpool as a team. Let's just hope that Salah's got his shooting boots on, and that at the other end, Van Dijk keeps the door shut!

I would not pretend to be any expert either, last time I went to a match was 1979. But my old man was absolutely nuts about it so some of that inevitably rubbed off. I used to enjoy playing it at primary school even though I was rubbish. Secondary school the standard was much higher making me look even worse so I packed it in.

I don't watch any football programmes, just the sport reports at the end of the local news, and the interviews always seem to be either that Chelsea(?) manager who speaks in riddles and only seems to move his bottom lip, like a thunderbirds puppet, or that Arsenal guy who looks like he caught his face in the lift doors, the Burnley manager who desperately needs to clear his throat, or Yurgen with his sex-offender glasses (I quite like him, and if I ever watch a game it's always a Liverpool one, whom I would be rooting for).

They think it's all over. It is now.... Unfortunately though, it never is:doh:;)

Last night's thunder storm was the most intense I've ever seen and for a spell the rain was the heaviest I've experienced. It was raining so hard that my car was silhouetted in haze of spray. Never seen that before. The lightning was non-stop and happening so fast the light from each flash seemed to blend into the next.
pretty cool here. wind is down but only 9c.overcast

It's not doing much of anything here right now. 23C, plenty of cloud, but brightish. More thunderstorms forecast.
Pishing down here, but warm, with a few thunderstorm rumbles... Good for the garden/lawn, but hope it clears up later, or we'll be having our Sunday lunch indoors.

oh my goodness , massive thunderclap overhead here nearly shook me out of my skin ....and fairplay to the builders who are currently working next door in torrential rain , lightning and they are fasting !!!! [ i presume ]

Gone very dark here and thunder is rumbling. Spitting too. Just managed to nip to the offy and back before it starts. Bank hols tomorrow so might as well have a drinky. Be a waste otherwise.

Yes. A drink later would be good. I deserve it, I've been up steps most of the afternoon hacking back a huge mountain of Forsythia and Ivy for my elderly neigbour (well he's older than me :)). I've now got about half a ton of the stuff piled up and waiting to burn and there's more to go! :rolleyes:
At least you can have a good fire with it. You can't beat a fire.
Torrential rain now here, thunder and lightning. 7 seconds between the lightning and the thunder so it's a couple of miles away. I got back to the house just in time.

I think it is to the south of me, I must be on the edge of it. Lots of repeated lightening flashes. It's really good.

A pal of my dads, their house was hit by lightning. Came down the chimney and found earth somewhere in the living room. Blew out the whole chimney breast, room was trashed. They were all out the house at the time, luckily.
Yeah, we've had a bit of donner und blitzen here too, and plenty of rain. Good stuff. I love the smell in the air it leaves afterwards!:)

Very fresh out there now. Still a bit of rain and some thunder in the distance. Birds are singing. Still can't get used to the idea that we have birdsong around here now.

Here's a piccie! Just took a look outside. There's a big bank of dark cloud approaching and it's constantly lit up with flashes of lightning inside. Can't hear any thunder yet.

You should see it now. The cloud is nearly overhead and there's a right old light-show going on. Funny thing is, I still can't hear thunder.

There is some minor armament out there, but you wouldn't keep an army at bay with it. The serious stuff is in the house in case I need to repel invaders. :)

I have my archery equipment in the garage, so if intruders are happy to stick around while I go to the garage, string the bow and set up the bow sight and stabilisers, then they'll be in trouble :D

Been fine all day here in Essex. Was up at 5:00AM and out and visiting two boot sales today. Few drop around 'in the air' at around 11.00AM, and that was all. There may be some rain overnight.
I've long since worried about disconnecting the antenna from my tuner and TV when there is a thunderstorm. I rely that my rooftop aerials are no higher then those of my neighbours, and that there is a 365' high mast about a quarter mile away from me which is designed to be hit by lightening (and often is - it's at the laboratories where I used to work in radar research!).

Reminds me of that bit in 'The Battle Of Britain' where the Polish pilot has to bail out and is held at pitchfork-point by angry villagers who mistake him for a German.

Warm and muggy here, at least I am after mowing the lawns. Sun just starting to poke its head out.
It's been bright and sunny since early this morning, and gradually getting warmer. Currently 23°C and rising!
Just about to have some fresh Galia melon and Parma ham, and a glass of chilled organic Spanish cider outside :)
