Try comparing the Ortophon cables on the Sepora site to the cables on the Ortophon site;).

The list of names along the top suggest this is the Affordable Valve Company,(under a different main name) who used to advertise a lot in the UK audio mags a few years ago. Those amplifiers were based on TAC designs which are guess what Chinese. I have heard a TAC amp...I wasn't that impressed Icon Audio imho/e are much better. However in saying that, I have not heard any of these Separo amplifiers, but by their cheapness I would say they still come from China and thus might (I hasten to say only might, as they could be good) not be up to much.

See if they do a 30 day money back deal or the like.

They don't appear to be AVC as their address is in Northants:

Suggests that these amps are Chinese, but if the voltage is correct, then they could be very good value with an el34 at less than 400 quid.

This piques my interest.

The site states:

"We offer a 14 day no-quibble refund (of the purchase price) if your are unhappy with the amp and a 90 day warranty against any manufacturing defaults. The amplifiers are also covered by a Separo 12 month warranty"

I suppose there's not too much difference between 14 and 30 days.

The reason that I ask is, the only information that I've got of a satisfied owner is the following:

Read that carefully, to me they are offering you a 14 day guarantee and precious little else, plus you are responsible for the return carriage to them which could be £100+ fully insured if you need to use a courier.

Neil is quite right, only buy from them if you can arrange a demo and are able to collect the amps, and do make absolutely sure they are certified for UK mains voltage.

The trouble with small outfits like this is that the products are unkown and possibly worthless after a few years' use.

I'd seriously recommend a WD amp, either kit or ready built, as they are fondly thought of by all who know them and hold their value too, even when the kits are sold on..

Don't mean to thread cr@p, but I've been there with unknown products and lost money the hard way in the past.
