Having thought about the state of play at Firebottle Towers it seems there is a bit of a trend here in having speakers high up.

The heights are all measured from floor to the top edge, not including super tweeters.
The music room speakers, the ESL57's are the highest at 2.58 metres, hung from the vaulted ceiling.

The speakers in the kitchen are on top of a tall cabinet at 2.31 metres to top edge.

Next highest are in the garage, on top of a receiver on a shelf, at 2.20 metres to top edge.

The workshop speakers are wall mounted at 1.91 metres to top edge.

The last pair of speakers in use in the lounge must be suffering from acrophobia, but then they are floorstanders at 0.79 metres so maybe can be forgiven.

I have turned a double bedroom into a dedicated music room. My Maggies are now on the first floor. Does this count?

Nice try but if they are on any floor you can only measure to the top edge, not including the ground floor.

My workshop speakers are on the first floor ........

My house is 525 feet above sea level, does this count?

The super tweeters in the music room I understand, the ones in the kitchen not so much:ner:

It's a different slant so why not? My altimeter says 522 feet but I don't believe it's that high.

You lead.

An interesting notion. The closer you are to sea level, the denser the air. The speaker is actually moving more mass the closer to sea level you get. And if you lived on a mountain at 10,000 ft. The air would be very thin, and the speakers would be moving far less mass than the same speakers at sea level. But, it should affect all speakers equally? But perhaps, the closer to sea level the easier it is to make extended bass?

It may all be minor compared to early reflections from the floor and walls, ceiling. Placing your speakers up high minimizes the early floor reflection, reducing boominess, tilting balance upward. Of course, this depends on which speaker you’re using, as to if this is good or bad. At some height you begin to have an early ceiling reflection, flip your speakers upside down and place them against the ceiling, and you wind up with the same reflection it would have on the floor. If you could leave the speakers on the floor, and stand on the ceiling, would it be exactly the same?

Mine are 34.5" (88cm) wide and 30.5" (77.5cm) tall, and positioned as intended: on the floor.

Actually no...

The Maggies are currently resting on 2" 'ish slabs and the new plinths are only 1" so they will then only be 5' 1"

My current open baffles stand 4' 9" tall but are dwarfed by my previous Hedlund Horns which stood 6' 7" tall.

Is this another pissing contest? I've got 7 pairs at the moment, recently down from eight. And a sub. And loads of drivers.

And loads of drivers.

Ah. Well that's a whole different ball game. I really couldn't tell you how many various drivers are in my collection. Woofers, tweeters (no mids) ABR's and full range units (not to mention mountains of crossovers and components) .
