It is 0.25mV output as I can see, so I'd say you need a gain figure of over 60dB. Anything 60 to 68dB should be fine.

my denon 103 sa has 0.25 output as well, the head amp i use is a denon ha-500 which has 2 gain settings,1 at 32db,the other at 24db.
are you saying it would be best with 60 db?
scrub that,im talking bollocks as usual. i forgot the gain that the mm stage already has !

No worries. The 32dB gain setting does strike me as rather high, I'm guessing aimed at outputs around 0.1mV.
:)
cheers, yes thats how i use it
out of interest could someone hazard a guess of the gain my MM phono stage has please ?

This is why these things really confuse the crap out of me :doh:
so what im doing is running the cartridge into the denon ha-500 then into the nakamichi's mm phono stage and then to a line in on my amp.
it all sounds lovely but as always after reading here im wondering if im getting the best from the cartridge?

Can't see any way of bettering it with your present kit Jamie, the Denon head amp is a quality item, plus running it at the 24db setting will give you more headroom than the higher setting.
If it sounds good .........
cheers,i tried both ways a few times in the past and to me it always sounded better using the nak into aux on the sony, thus having both volume controls in play.
im using a different amp now which just has 3 line inputs.
your right there,no, as i don't understand the maths i was just seeking clarification,it sounds blooming marvelous.
