Hello to those with a lot more technical knowledge than I. I am Pete and I live in Gloucestershire UK. I have joined the forum in the hope of getting a steer from people who know stuff about the kit that I was recently given. I have an interest in doing things 'properly' and I can imagine that I will want to develop and improve my hifi over time so this is the beginning of things. I live near a fantastic speaker business called ATC near Stroud and a visit to them demonstrated the complex nature of building the best system. Here's my starting point and my question, I hope you don't mind me joining the forum by asking for help!:

I have these:
This amp
http://www.rega.co.uk/elex-r.html
and this deck
http://www.rega.co.uk/planar-3-2016.html

I have the opportunity to buy speakers like this:
https://www.gumtree.com/p/speakers/vintage-sony-apm-66-es-speakers-mega-rare-incredible-sound-200w-6ohms-studio-high-end-audio-hi-fi/1246106884

My musical taste is Pink Floyd, singer songwriter guitar, Peter Green etc and I like to hear solid bass and turn up the volume.

I can take my kit to the person selling the speakers and test the sound but my question is - are the Sony APM 66 technically the right match for my amp & turntable?

Many thanks in advance.
Peter

Hi Peter. Welcome to AOS.

You like jumping in at the deep end then :)? I'm sure the Sony speakers would work with the Rega amp, but have you considered how to get the speaker fixed, should they need attention at any time? Finding replacement cone/diaphragm surrounds for those square bass drivers would not necessarily be an easy job and the speakers are pretty old now.

Anyway, you can ask some questions about them in the Past Masters section or in the Blank Canvas area if you like. I'm sure members will have opinions.

Enjoy the forum,
Geoff.
