I will start the presentation with one project, which is in the initial phase, but has undergone several conceptual changes-"J&N"-2.
In order to save your time, I will allow myself a clarification:
-Everything in this project- idea, design the filters and the overall workmanship of the cabinets to the last detail was done by my hands.Not used "CNC" machine and 3D program.
First option:
I started with measurement simulations;
N-1 graph characteristics of the speaker without filter,we have a peak of 106 dB. N-2 graph shows the transfer characteristic of the filter in the frequency band 50-100 Hz is above the 0 dB level. It is useful to understand why in the passive filter the transmission ratio is greater than one? The answer to this question is given by a comparison of the input resistances . The minimum value of the input resistance of the speakers with filters (red curve) at a frequency of 90 Hz is 3.2 ohms. This is an acceptable value. If I select the cutoff frequency of the filter below, for example 200Hz, the input resistance will decrease to about 2 ohms. This will be too much load on the amplifier. The costs of creating or acquiring such an amplifier will be unacceptably high. A decrease in volume will also lead to a decrease in the input resistance, but to a lesser extent.
N-3 graph shows the sound pressure of 90dB of two W26FX001 speakers with a filter at an input voltage of 2.83V. It's not hard to guess that if we simulate the filter for the W18EX001 speaker, we will get a sound pressure of no more than 86 dB at an input voltage of 2.83 V. If we remain in the concept of building an AS with filters on passive elements, we will have to reconsider the choice of the mid-frequency dynamics, or to refuse 1 woofer speakers- W26FX001.

I've exhausted the attachment limit, I will continue ...

My final choice is:

It's a very ambitious project, so you have my admiration for thinking big.
One thing though - amplifiers produce less distortion when the impedance is high, so I would avoid letting the impedance drop too low.
Thanks!
Actually I was considering the option: 1 x 26 FX001, 1х 22 FX001, 1x 18 FX001, T 25 CF002 - "SEAS- EXCEL", for the reason you have indicated.
This is still an initial stage......more pictures;

They look spectacular. You were not tempted to get the bass lower than 40Hz or is there matching subwoofers on the cards?

When you are obsessed with the idea of "DIY", all the difficulties do not matter. The best results are obtained when "DIY" is not only a hobby but also a profession, but this is known to everyone, sorry for the cliché!
Perhaps you will be interested in how I did this project, maybe not? So, let's start;
First i did this "home-matrix";

Of course it depends on the facilities one has, I am good at construction but have not got great facilities. Imporovising is Ok for a small design job but if the volume of work is high it becomes tedious.

My situation is a same, I don't need many tools, this is my "copy center";
P.S.
There is no tedious work in the DIY!

Do you assume, that you will get poor results with such speakers?

jororaitchev
13-04-2018, 10:02
I will show you one of my projects, which I had to change basically right at the very beginning - the back speakers , let's go;
The loudspeakers are "SEAS"- Excel T25CF002 ", W18EX001- 6,5"
Everything is handmade, no "CNC" machine is used.

First I paint the model as I like it / I do not like the standard prisms / I don't use 3D programs. I'm an electrical engineer and
all I need is an idea, a pencil, mathematics, elementary geometry , a perspective view and that's it ...
We all know, what is the ideal shape for the speakers. For technological reasons, it is difficult to do, especially with three tape loudspeakers. I strive to make the second most effective form - the egg.
To begin with, I schematically design this way;
I calculate the approximate volume, how do I find the right volume, will show you later in my project .

Very impressive -......
Thank you for your good rating!

Another position of internal ribbing in the cabinets /p.-1/;
For the next stage I made this "home matrix", with its help I bent 8 layers with 4 mm beech plywood;

jororaitchev
16-04-2018, 09:20
I am approaching to the measurement of the internal volume:
From waste material I made this gadget ,that takes part in the measurements and when assembling the cabinet:/p-4,5/

jororaitchev
16-04-2018, 11:15
I have to make another post, sorry!

My method of finding an internal volume of a complex construction was discovered long ago,
the answer was given so many years ago,/about 2500/ of the Archimedes genius!
The volume per liter of water is equal to the volume of 1 kg. and 1l. Water = 1 kg,
-their specific resistances are the same, with very little error.
I will say it in a more understandable way:
- if we have 20 liters of water in a bucket, this bucket will weigh approximately -20 kg.
- if we have another liquid in this bucket, we may have 20 liters, but we will not have 20 pounds.
In my method of measurement, i do not immerse the inner construction in the water, just I measure the weight and deduct it from the total volume.
There is no simpler and more accurate method for finding the volume of a complex body,
Archimed's method is flawless!

Any other material we use to fill, we need to know the "ro" of this material.
On the second picture,the red line is the waterline, the vas of cabinet must be fill with water next to it / everything must be perfectly horizontally!/.

Stunning work, that's a real commitment to a big project.
Thank you for the evaluation of my DIYers work!

jororaitchev
20-04-2018, 18:40
And I am approaching to the measurement of the internal volume:
I measure the weight of the my vented inner construction - 3.5 kg.
-The amount of water is 42 l. in the box; the average value relative to the density of MDF is 0.75 kg. of a cubic decimeter,3,5/0,75=4,7l, 42-4,7l= 37.3l more than what's needed - what's next?
The problem is that my investor likes the vision of the column.The decrease in volume must occur inside the construction of the cabinet.This sends the project in a more initial phase,we have a new requirement for the project, another W18 EX001.The old project stayed in the past ...

jororaitchev
24-04-2018, 17:09
After preprocessing of the internal ribbing I can now start collecting the cabinets;

Now I can make the exact measurement of the volume.
And that's 31.5l, just as much as I need!

jororaitchev
28-04-2018, 18:49
l forget to show you what I did to get that volume!
I make a filter compartment (for the CW and TW), the W section will be in the box;
I previously make the last layer-10 mm MDF / to get a sandwich construction / on the front panel and the bottom/;

jororaitchev

Polyurethane primer before veneering;

After the measurements, this is are Technical data:
2½- way surround loudspeakers,
Frequence Range; 33-25000 Hz
Long term Max Power; 200 W
Crossover Frequency; 2800 Hz
Impedance; 4 Ohms
Sensitivity; 90 db SPL
Cabinet Volume; 31
Gross weight / without stand /; 27kg.

This is the project of the rear speakers, will finish it with "Bird's eye view".

A very underestimated moment - work with multilayer MDF material!Always been a problem with the MDF, especially when we have a multilayer construction. Over time, individual parts are beginning to show up - all of this is the result of improper processing. Soon I will show you how to deal with this problem.

P.S.
I show you a German site, that offers such "DIY- loudspeakers " and please for your attention, they want money for such a product!

Wow - that's impressive! :eek: You are very skillful Georgi.

My late father was very good with his hands. It was an ambition of his to furnish a room where all the items of furniture had been made by him. Sadly an ambition unachieved - but tables, side lights, fireplace and kerb, chandelier, wall lights and all the paintings were by his hand.

In my life there is a label-communism !!!! You will find it difficult to understand me because, fortunately, you have not lived in socialism.

I will try i be to quote a great English premier, for your time - Margaret Tatcher , she says in an interview "Socialism is a great- nothing! "
All my abilities were acquired because we lived in a society where there were no goods, opportunities, freedom (in any form).
In Bulgaria there are many capable people aged 58-62 with similar skills. Unfortunately, the name of the Bulgarians (especially in the UK) is compromised mainly by gypsies, garbage and for us, the Bulgarians.

Congratulations for your father, he deserves my admiration!

Thank you for your kind words!
Tell me, did you use a computer program to calculate your volumes, and spacing? If so what program did you use?

Your idea of using water to calculate volume is genius! I personally was thinking of using small plastic pellets. Fill the cabinet with plastic pellets, then dump them into a square box and measure volume. It may not be as exact as the water method, but should be easier to do. No need to waterproof the cabinet.

I’ve read your write up 3 times, and I’ve learned a few things. Your methods are most resourceful and unique, I am inspired to start on my project! I may have to enlist some help, but I can get them built. Thanks again for sharing.

Thank you!

In fact, I have been practicing "DIY-Audio" for about 10 years, more seriously in the last 2-3 years, with "DIY" - as a whole since I remember myself.

At the beginning, I met a very great specialist audio engineer a who had a lab for measuring speakers, production and marketing of DYA- Audio. He was the man, who kindled the spark in me.
He showed me the best qualities speakers (for my financial capabilities), namely SEAS. The sound of these speakers, also became my sound. All my projects are filled with "SEAS-Excel". I've made measurements of more than 40 speakers and technical differences between them were nil. All the characteristics of the plant matched my measurements. The only downside is the price !

I mean, I have long known necessary volumes of the speakers I use and I do not need a calculation program.
The volumes required for a speakers, are usually very easy to calculate, with the help of a calculator/ there are many in DIY-Audio forums/, if you know their parameters, of course all - is the best !
The program I'm using for filter measurements is this, good - about anyone doing loud speakers:

P.S.
I have some remarks about your assumption about the measurement material, but the post has become very long, i can go on at a later stage.

WOW These speakers are show stoppers

I’ve seen quite a few really good DIY speakers in my time, but non of them at this level of finish

And I’m lucky enough to know Troels Gravesen, the best speaker builder I’ve ever known/know
His speakers are superb sound and all, and the finish is even greater in “person”, so I imagine yours are crazy

Way too advanced for me, but super inspirational
