View Full Version : Me
Hello all.
Obviously I've bypassed the etiquette already by making my first post and being accused of willy waving without even a mention of equipment - just cables.
Had a good listen to the AOS stuff at Scalford - not too bad at all :)
Have had hifi as a hobby for the last 45 odd years, starting with a Dansette if I remember. Been through some stuff since then including the obligatory SME/Shure V15 combo of the '70's - those were the days - tracking weights of almost nothing and tortuous test records to prove trackability.
Used to try to get the best sound for the lowest buck for years and was very happy doing so but have to say that more bucks can mean better sound at the end of the day. I'm not a box swapper. Now I've got the best I can afford and don't intend to make any hardware changes for the forseeable future - which is a long time!!!.
Just pissing around with peripherals keeps me happy and surprises me as to how large an impact they can make to the result.
bye for now

Welcome to AOS Robin!
You will find this forum much more open to reasoned debate (especially about cables) than others!
Hi Steve - thanks for that. I think I'm in the shit already and only made one post!!!
Do pop round for an earfull when you feel like it.

Welcome Robin. This forum was actually started so we could talk about cables and stuff without objectivist cretins pissing on our parade.
You've come to the right place.
What's the rest of your system? Are you using the new ReVo stand?
Quite frankly this support system is amazing for digging out nuances notably sub-rhythms and inflections you never even knew were on the recording.
Mr Ed of Audioworks occasionally posts here.
Hi Robin and welcome, please do share with us your system in the gallery.
Welcome to AoS, Robin. :)

Hi Monya
Are you the Monya from ZG ? If so you were very supportive to me, during my grief period there a year and a bit ago.
Anyway you are very Welcome here.
Yes pictures would be nice, if I remember right you had a very nice system.

Yes it's me. Do hope you are now in fine fettle and enjoying life, the universe and everything.
Pictures of my system reside on windows media player until I can figure out how to move them here, there or anywhere. Don't hold your breath. If this thread is dead without pics better have a cremation now .
Current set up is a Nagra cd player into a Karan pre via MIT magnum cable then out into a darTZeel power amp driving Magico V2 speakers through Transparent cables. Mains is now all Audiowoks revive stuff. Rack is Finite Elemente pagode. No Revo rack which wouldn't suit the room anyway cos like many of us my sounds double up as the lounge as well and swambo needs consulting.
Has taken me a long time to get here and to say the sounds justify the cost is an open question. Like many systems the limiting factor is the room. I've no doubt that a bigger space would do no harm at all.
Anyway hope this gives you an idea and promise to work on the pics!!

Excellent...you are indeed more than welcome here.
What kind of music do you like to listen to ?

Perhaps I'm being thick here, but how did we work out 'Monya' was called Robin? I can't see it mentioned on this thread and yet everyone seemed to know...
Anyway, regardless, welcome to AOS, Robin! :)
Marco.
It's just one of life's little mysteries
Lol - did you mention it somewhere else? :)
Marco.

Someone else did. Nothing to worry about.
No worries - I was just puzzled at how everyone seemed to know his name, yet there was no indication of it anywhere I could see :)
I've added it to his sig now.
Marco.

Pretty varied but at the mo.a lot of country eg Mary Gauthier, Lucinda Williams, Gretchen Peters.
Springsteen gets a look in, Dylan, Clapton. Some Jazz.
A range of classical esp. RCA living Stereo reissues. Wagner (main man)
As you see - pretty varied. No metal, indie, urban etc. Too old for that stuff and no, I don't need re-educating!
Who the hell is Gavin????
Hahaha.... Dunno. I had Gavin in my mind for some reason, matey - now rectified :)
Marco.
Hi Robin, welcome to AoS! :)
(Sorry, couldn't resist...!)
If you could find the time to post some pictures that would be great, but not a hanging offence if you don't... is it? Oh, apparently it is! Well, get them posted quick! ;)
Enjoy the forum, look forward to reading more of your posts.

Hi Robin, welcome to AoS! :)
I had never heard of Gretchen Peters,..... but now playing through my system via Spotify, brilliant ;) I'm a big fan off the likes of Nanci Griffith, Laura Cantrell, Iris Dement, Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss and the like.
Cheers

Peters' latest 'one to the head, one to the heart' is well worth a listen and quite different from most of the other albums - a definite 'western' flavour. Meanwhile I'm exploring Laura Cantrell whom I'm unfamiliar with, so ta for that.
