Good morning,

After years of reading through these boards I decided to join (finally).

A bit about myself:
Been around music and equipment to play it for a long time, started probably somewhere around 1990. Later I merged passion for music also with selling equipment to play it (we were authorised distributors for Luxman, Accuphase, B&W, Marantz, Denon, Rotel, Cabasse, McIntosh, Audioquest and few more).
At the same time we were also members of small team who organised jazz, rock, blues concerts.

Some time later I moved to the UK and things and career have changed completely. Managed to get back to quality listening some 5 years ago and since then put together decent setup (audiophilia nervosa kicked in) and the collection of records is growing slowly too. Unfortunately my current career doesn’t have anything in common with music anymore. Maybe one day I’ll go back to those days at shop spent with customers and similarly minded friends.

Hi Pav, glad you decided to join us at last.

What was your opinion of Cabasse speakers? I only ever heard one set which were some very old ones but they were quite impressive. Don't seem to come up for sale much in the UK though so I've never had the chance to try some at home.

Thank you, so much has changed since 2004 from the gear perspective. New brands, new technology and crazy prices to go with that.

My experience with them ends at around 2004-2005. Really liked Balitc, Egea 500 and Iroise 500 series. Didn't quite like that much cheaper models and found them a bit too "hot" in the upper frequencies. Strangely enough, they seemed to pair quite well with Rotel of the same vintage.

They were complete opposite of B&W of the same vintage, more "alive" with great soundstage reproduction but some could find them a bit too aggressive when compared side by side with similarly priced B&W. It was all about pairing them with the right amplifier.

My former colleague and good friend still owns his pair and uses them with Accuphase with great results. I haven't had a chance to listen to any of the current models.

Thanks man. The set I heard were quite 'lively' but in a good way.

Hope to see you around the forum. :)
