....so, er, hello.....
Very pleased to be here (even though it took about a million years for my account to be 'activated' - that's what I like to see, laid back moderators :))
I am passionate about my hifi - even though years of box swapping seem to have taught me very little. This week, I am a committed valve and vinyl fan. Next week, I will be cursing unreliable tube amps and noisy LPs. The week after......
Anyway, my current system is as follows:
Michell Orbe SE, AO rewired Tecnoarm, ATOC9, heavily upgraded Lynwood mc phono stage, Sony DVP-S7700 (classic old school DVD player which also makes a very good CDP), Audio Innovations L1 valve preamp (a hard wired prototype), Musician OTL valve monoblocs, Ruark Accolades.
For the record, I post under the same moniker on hifiwigwam.
Looking forward to getting to know you all a bit better.

Hi Martin, welcome to AoS. That explains it - I was going to ask if you were hungry, liked skiing, or were scared of spiders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horace_series if you haven't got a clue what I'm on about!) but as it is jazz related, I'll take a flyer and guess you like jazz... any other types of music, particular artists or maybe even periods that float your boat more than others?
Your system sounds great - we all love pictures, so if you could manage some time, a Gallery entry would be great ! ;)
Anyway, enjoy AoS and get stuck in, I'm sure you will find it a great place to hang around.

Hi - yeah, jazz is certainly high on my list of things I'd rather be doing than working, changing nappies etc. I also like blues (proper blues - not that lightweight 'wahwahtwiddlyweee' soulless fretwanking rubbish), folk (keep it honest and you won't go far wrong), classical (pretty much all of it), opera (likewise, though I have a particular weakness for Verdi), the cooler, cleverer end of rock (from the Pixies to Tom Waits and lots of unrelated stuff in between). In fact, I'll give anything a chance - I've recently realised the genius of Aphex Twin, for example.
I'll certainly take some pictures of my system - just need to find an angle that doesn't show up the chaotic mess I live in.

Ah, now I'm intrigued - the wink suggests a great deal, but I'm not sure what. Have we met in another life, perhaps :)
For the most part, it's a fabulous combination, but it's not quite ideal.
I strongly suspect that either the Accolades or the OTLs will have to go.
Today, I'm convinced the speakers must go.
Tomorrow, no doubt, the speakers will be staying and the amps will be replaced with beefy transistor behemoths. But then again :rolleyes:

A proper Dr Who fan. Tom Baker was The One IMHO.
The new shows are slicker, but they threw out the baby with the badly made costumes and dodgy camera work as far as I'm concerned....
When will people learn that a little soul goes a long way?

Agreed 100%. You are very welcome indeed to AoS :):cool:
The stories are way too short now, and thus are 2 dimensional imho. Great special effects don't make a good story. Of the new doctor stories, Girl in the Fire Place and Blink are the best imho.... I have high hopes for the new Doctor and Mr Moffet (who wrote those stories) who takes over from Russell T (who I don't rate that much :sofa:), hopefully quality story telling will come back.

Ah, I see.
The Accolades are not a particularly difficult load, I suspect - my OTLs drive them very well overall, but do struggle a bit with opera. I originally had the speakers biwired, but for some reason the amps objected to that (distortion!). Going to single wire solved that problem completely - never experienced that before.
I put it down to the OTLs being fussy.

Indeed.....:) Not long to go now.....NEW DR WHOand a Dalek story that resembles one I have been working on for awhile, set during WW2...which their's is as well ummmmmmmmmm have I got spyware ? :eek: Except mine is set in Germany. What is the point of having Daleks involved with the allies ? The Nazis are the most like the Daleks imho. My story starts at the time of the bombing of Hitler's bunker, and....................... ?
