Another DIY carbon fiber tonearm

Thanks to Qwin for being the first (that I know of) to post his DIY carbon fiber tonearm for the 1200. I just completed this on my 1200 M3D and love it.

I also used KAB superflex wire and ran it from the cartridge straight to RCA jacks I put on one of the hinge plates. While I had it apart I put a blue LED in place of the white pop up light.

I built an external PSU (from a thread here) a while back. Sorbothane feet and a KAB fluid damper are also being used.

I had the fluid damper before the DIY tonearm and left it on mainly for comparing the sound, I may take it off later just to see.

Well so far the channel balance seems to be better, not sure why. The clarity is definitely better. I really need to listen to a lot of records and figure it out :)

Looks very good , What did you use for the cart end of the arm tube and cart mount / finger lift ? is it custom made or something purchased on line ?

It is a cheap one I purchased online. I removed the connecting pins from it so I could run the wire straight through to the cartridge.

Al - The head shell off the Linn AV-X is quite nice and easy to adapt to fit, I used one on my carbon arm.

Here are a couple of pix. I went with a cheap one because I didn't want connectors, just a flat surface to attach the cartridge to. I glued it into the carbon fiber tube with JB weld.

Yes, I used an aluminum tube inside the carbon fiber tube.
