Selling my Kralk Audio BC-30 mkI (face lift) speakers in dark rosewood veneer. They are less than a year old and in excellent condition.

I've no idea about the 'face lift' thing - but I heard the originals at a Show soon after they came out and they were the best sound at the Show for me - and that was against 'serious' high end / high cost gear.

Thanks Jerry - I think the face lift versions have gloss black front baffles and black tweeter surrounds.

Are these mk2 then or are they a facelift model that sat between mk1 and Mk2?

Steve - these are the final version of the mk1. Rosewood was also a special order so these are probably unique.

Can anyone comment on their similarity (or not) to higher priced spendors/harbeths and the original ls3/5a?

In 2014 the BC-30 was upgraded to Black Cat status and I upgraded the speaker with new terminals and now with a nice new Alloy terminal plate and black acrylic face plate to make the speaker look even better. I made a dedicated stand for the Black Cat for the 2015 show called the PAW (Passive Audio Woofer) – the reasoning behind this was people were wanting to use them on stands into the room and the design simply didn’t work in that situation as it needs the rear wall and the bookshelf to get the right bass extension from the tiny box. The PAW stand features the same bass driver as the speaker but mounted in an equal part ported band pass cabinet working below 200 Hz and it allows the Black Cats to come down off the bookshelf and play with the big boys. The stand worked really well and was a hit with the public at the show and I feel it has taken the little Black Cats to another level and given them a wider appeal to the buying public.

I auditioned them against the Proac Tablette 10. In my room/system the Kralks sounded far more open with extended highs and firmer bass in true monitor style. The Proacs sounded warm and rounded by comparision - nothing offensive but a bit soft.
