How easy/difficult is it to send stuff to France (genuine question)?

Never had a problem.

If you are being paid by bank transfer there are some additional codes that indicate which bank and branch you use in the UK, forgot what they are called tho'.

I've purchased several times on ebay from the UK with no problems at all.

Half of them only have optical out so be careful. The spdif ones tend to go for more, the precision model is well regarded. I've got a HHB branded version of an elite stable platter recorder with full copper chassis and it won't be going anywhere for a long time, I'm shifting to file based but this is my permanent choice for discs.

My preference would be a dedicated transport.

There appears to be a Cambridge Audio Discmagic 1 transport on preloved now. Looks like it is in Warrington. I use one it has optical, spdif and aes/ebu. I’ve had one where the transformer hums but the one I have now is great.

The problem is that you get ripped off in France for Hifi equipment.
As an example a brand new Cambridge CXC Transport will cost £299 at Richer Sounds - typical new price in France 549 Euros!!!

The items I suggested are on the used market not new. I hate to say it but importation of goods and distribution has a cost, and it has ever been such. Americans moan about the cost of UK kit, UK people moan about the cost of American kit and so do others in other countries. A few companies do manage parity with pricing, but few do, generally with small brands and niche products its not easy to do.

Unfortunately as a consequence of new products being so expensive the 2nd hand market is also inflated as sellers seek to recoup a reasonable return.

Things cost what they cost, you buy or you don't.

As statements of the obvious go that's right up there with the best of them!

yes, good quality usually gets noticed and becomes desirable, thus the price rises. if you want a top machine that others also rate then expect to pay going rate.

I wouldn't even use a 1.50Euro bottle of wine for cooking - but I take your point.

Doddle for me as I use a courier I have known for years.
I can recommend them or you can find a good shipper looking at their reviews

Richer Sounds certainly don't.

Given the price you say the CXC goes for in France, they're unlikely to undercut their own distributor and export.

Do a search on this site for a Bel Canto transport Fanthorpes have one and Coherent also had one. They're supposed to be pretty good
