Hi
having got back into music via Hi res flac format I'm on the lookout for recommendations regarding a headphone upgrade.

Current set up is Astell & Kern ak70 mk11 with some Sennheiser on ear Momentum headphones, looking at the same make again I've come accross hd 600 which are highly regarded but also hd 800 and hd 800s, the latter are 3 times the price of the hd 600, so is the asking price worth it ?

Also are there other makes worth tracking down for a listen ?

impact, timing and sound staging are what I like in music :)

I've been using a pair of HD650s for a while and really like them. The bass has plenty of weight but isn't overpowering, mids are clear and strong and the top end is light and musical. They are also very comfortable, I can listen for a couple of hours and have no problems at all.

HD600 is even better than HD650. HD650 are a bit too bloated in lower mids for my taste.

Audio-Technica ATH-R70x is another set of headphones with a very similar sonic signature...

Yep. I demoed them against each other and went for the HD600. I listen to classical mostly and they have a more even(possibly honest?) presentation.

I find the HD650 a bit cloying listening for long periods. Pleasant sounding headphone, but prefer the slightly more open HD600.

Hi
Thanks for the replies :) has anyone got experience of hd 800 use compared to the 600, the price difference is wide but is the sonic performance also wide ?

No not IME. The HD800 are better, but the law of diminishing returns makes the price difference batshit crazy(unless you're well heeled or have golden ears).

Both are supremely comfortable.
