BNC Connector

I plan to make up a short cable to replace the RCA to RCA cable I am currently using to connect my Allo Digione to my DAC. I have the cable and a good quality RCA phono plug but need a BNC connector. Where can I get a good quality BNC connector that will allow me to use a fairly thin coaxial cable. I would prefer one that doesn't require special crimping tools.

Alternatively, any ideas on where I can get a short ready made BNC to RCA cable. Ideally, 50cm or shorter, although it has to be very flexible so that it does not stress the sockets at each end.

I wouldn't think you will find any difference between an RCA-RCA or RCA-BNC in performance terms, I didn't notice any.

If you are just making up a short lead I would have thought good RCA plugs at both ends would be OK.

See no point in adding an extra link in the chain if I am making a cable from scratch. The BNC socket on the Digione is much more securely mounted and seems to offer a more rigid (i.e. locking) connection.

RS will have BNC solder/clamp plugs to suit. Probably for either RG59 type cable about 5mm diameter or RG174 roughly 3mm.

The same cable is being sold by some retailers for much more so this seems a real bargain. The right angle connection is perfect for my needs so it's just a case of cutting it to length and soldering on a good rca plug. So cheap I'm not worried if it doesn't work out.

Adaptors of any kind, on a signal lead (especially such a critical one as this), are about the worst possible bottleneck you can introduce into a system! Avoid at all costs.

However, Geoff, you'll only get the full benefits of BNC, if you do it throughout, by replacing the RCA socket on your Allo Digione or DAC (whichever item currently isn't fitted with a BNC socket), and then fit a BNC plug at both ends of your respective cable.

That's the only way of doing the job properly :)

The Digione has two outputs: BNC and RCA phono. My Caiman SEG does not have a BNC. My main reason for taking the route I have is that I have my Digione atop the Caiman. I have some very high quality RCA cables but they are simply too long or too stiff to bend sharply through 180 degrees (it it quite a tight arc). I am hoping that this cable is more flexible and that when cut to 20cm or thereabouts will make a neat cabling solution. If it doesn't sound as good as the 1m RCA cable that I am currently using then only pennies lost!

Yup, I get that, and it's a good plan. However, it would be interesting fitting a BNC socket on the Caiman, and therefore 'going all BNC'. Perhaps that's something Stan could do, if there's enough room on the case? :)

IMO, if so, you'd likely achieve a notable sonic upgrade.
