That's a shame, mate. Birthdays should be a family time, so thought at the very least your daughter would've popped round. I always take my dad out for his birthday. Hope they (including your bro) at least sent you a card! Anyway, your steak sounds fab, so enjoy it

Oh dear... Why would you even buy something like that, from Lidl, of all places?
Here's a tip to remember in future, Alex:
As Lidl and Aldi are German stores, predominantly catering for Germans (even though their UK stores are stocked to cater a little for the British palate), don't buy anything from there that Germans would never eat in a month of Sundays, as it will be SHITE!;)
Their brown sauce is also rank, for the same reason [conversely their tomato one is superb - way better than Heinz, and cheaper], so don't touch that either. If you insist on eating tinned soup, then buy it from a BRITISH supermarket, where some of the better of the 'own brands' can be edible (better than Baxters, etc, and cheaper).
Marco [a big fan of Lidl, but only for the RIGHT things].

I usually have choice things to buy at Lidl, however, a friend said that the cream of chicken was good, unfortunately, it was not to my taste. However, their giant tin of clear(ish) chicken soup is very good. I often make my own soups, sometimes, I just want something quick.

Yup, no worries - I get that :)
I'm not surprised that their clear chicken soup was good, because that's something that Germans would eat! Cream of chicken, no :nono:
When shopping in Lidl or Aldi, try and adopt the mindset of 'Would a German person eat this?', as a guide to whether it's liable to be any good or not. Because you can be sure that if they wouldn't, it's only being stocked in UK stores to 'keep the Brits happy', and the quality won't be great! :trust:
Marco.

yup their big tins of consomme type chicken noodle is excellent. not tried any others. if i get chicken cream soup its usually heinz.
popped out for some veg. got some baby peppers, spring onion and chives.
It's because Germans eat clear chicken soup (my wife's half-German, so I'm familiar with these things), although not necessarily with noodles. Normally, it would be the clear broth made from a whole chicken, including its carcass, with the chicken boiled in the broth and served alongside it, cut into portions.
It's delicious! :)
Next time you're buying tinned soup, then instead of Heinz, try one of the supermarket own brands - not the very basic stuff (as that's pennies for a reason), but the stuff up from that, and you might be surprised at the quality compared with Heinz, and cheaper, too!
Marco.

Often called Jewish Penicillin, for good reason.
Happy birthday mate, have a good evening

Indeed... It's a European thing, the Italians and French (amongst others) also make it.
