As per the title. In very nice condition, all drive units working perfectly, sound absolutely lovely. High sensitivity (96dB with 4.4w) so perfect with valve amps (EL84s, especially), 45-22Hz range, 48.2 x 26,6 x 25.4cm.

Collection only from Bedford, £40.

Way too far away for me sadly.

What a bargain!

Brought up with sounds like the Goodmans Minister and the like. I'd be tempted just for the nostalgia of these and the big involving sound they make. Sadly too many speakers around here (1 or 2 more coming) so will decline (tempting though!).

How does the Minister SL version differ by the way?

The SL version changed the tweeter to a Philips model, and it had nicer banana plug posts, instead of bare screws. I haven't heard them, though, but still listen to the original Ministers in my bedroom, really lovely sound and teak cabinets.

Nice thread revival! For info, the tweeters in the first pic do look like the Phillips ones, the Goodmans DT3 ones had a more square shaped plate.

Goodmans made some odd choices regarding tweeters. The DT3 was a bit unrefined and the Philips was brash at the top. The SEAS larger dome employed in the Mezzo had issues too. The Goodmans tweeter I liked best was the PVC surround cone unit as per Maxim, which sounded sweet. I used to buy NOS job lots of the various types and tried them all in various projects many years ago.

I actually know a little electronics shop that still had some of the Philips dome tweeters NOS boxed until recently. If they are still in business, it's 'City Radio Stores' in Bond Street, Ealing W5. They had a few interesting bits tucked away. If you're looking for an elusive ceramic pickup cartridge for instance, they might just have it!

Yes, it took me a little while to dust the cobwebs off the thread so I could read it!

Mea Culpa. It is all my fault for asking a question in a sales thread. :)

They sound really good with an old RCA SEP amp in the bedroom (6BQ5). Get a pair!

What kind of design was the Minister? I still have a pair of Goodmans Goodwoods, which has a bass reflex design. Not as good as some KEF models which were contemporary - probably because of cabinet resonances - but they went deeper than most speakers I've heard - then or since. Mostly didn't notice, but on one set of LPs - Wagner Flying Dutchman - Keilberth from Bayreuth you can really hear the singers jumping up and down on the stage.

Unfortunately I'm not allowed to use those ....

Unfortunately I'm not allowed to use those ....It's also bass reflex you can see the port in the original photos.

I was always a vintage Kef fanboy (Concertos, Correlis etc) and also placed them above equivalent Goodman's like the Magnum, but when I got my first pair of B&W DM2as I soon changed my mind about the best manufacturer of the period.

In retrospect I think the Magnums may have been the equal of the Concertos, and the Magisters were more fun, but I still place the DM2a at the top of my 70s British speaker list.

There are some DM2s currently on eBay, though you mention DM2a. They may be very good - but probably have the same issues as the Goodmans speakers I still have. I'm not totally convinced that the new KEFs I bought as "acceptable" are any better - indeed I suspect they aren't - but that's life.

Haha, no, that would have been a long commute, from the Left Coast of Canuckistan, to the British Isles, to pick up those beauties.
