Anybody had a play with one of these? Looks interesting, for anyone who's found the little Zerostat guns a bit of the lightweight side (as I have):

Looks to be a bit of a sledgehammer to crack a small nut. Also it seems you have to provide it with a separate air pump; though I suppose one used to aeriate fish tanks could be pressed into service.

Fortunately I'm not troubled with static and have never found the need to use a Zerostat or any other piezoelectric anti-static 'gun'.

Yup, an interesting toy, no doubt, but like you I'm not so troubled by static, such that the use of a device like that would become necessary. I find that the effects of static are largely eliminated by cleaning records on an RCM, with the right type of fluid, and using good quality anti-static sleeves, such as those from Nagaoka.

Thus done, I virtually never have to mess with my records, which simply slip, pristine, out of their sleeves and are ready for playing :)

the product in question is used for a clean room. you could use it for records too but its really for treating a room for static.

Get that thing too close to your cartridge could cause catastrophic results?

Before I got my RCM, I used the DiscWasher brush before every play, which caused static, and was followed up by the Zerostat. But now I’m Like Marco, after a good washing on the RCM and storage in a vinyl sleeve, I don’t fuss with Records anymore. I just pop them on and play.

That's a shocking thing to say !

My wife doesn't think I can mend the electric shower. Well, she's in for a shock !

I sold my Zerostat gun after I realised I hadn't used it for years since I'd wet-vac. cleaned my records. The RCM is the best antistatic device, more, I think, by happenstance than by design.

Talking about static electricity, a jumper I was given for Xmas kept crackling with static, so I took it back to the shop and exchanged it for another f.o.c.

An air freshener I bought simply wouldn't work properly despite changing batteries. It simply didn't make scents.

Happenstance maybe? Or perhaps by design of the cleaning fluids? Some record washes fight static better than others.

Maybe. I have no experience of brands but common or garden IPA mix banishes static if sleeved properly. As it's not a 'design', I'd call it happenstance.:)

You are absolutely right, I’d say it is not by design. But I suspect the “wetting agent”, may be to blame? However it happens, I’m just glad it does! A good RCM has revolutionized my vinyl playback, and taken it to the next level.
