Decided to go down the active speaker route, hence Mr Liang with mods up for sale. This one used to belong to Ali Tait so quite well known on here.

2 inputs and 230 volt transformers. Spare valves including nearly new Harma 5881's but not 845's.

Comes with cage and box for shipping.

Looking for 500gbp plus postage. Collection preferred as weighs approx 80lbs.

I won't wax lyrical as it is obviously fantastic!

Hi
For what its worth me and swampy compared one of these liang amps with an unison research 845 and in our view the liang came out tops.At possibly one sixth of the price of the unison its a steal.
Dave.

Scotty.

Looking for a new amp to drive my Quad 57's be interested if you thought the amp would be a suitable match ?

Where in UK are you please as I would't want to let a courier loose on 80lb of amp.

Thanks Dave - certainly the best amp I've heard to date. I listened to some highish end stuff from Moon and Linn but no comparison. Felt underwhelmed with the transistor amps.

I really couldn't say how they would work together - never heard the Quads. Paul at Classique Sounds might be worth asking.

I'm in Castle Douglas, South West Scotland.

As for couriers - I sent a mark 1 Liang to France with UPS with no problems, so it can be done!

Cheers,

Having owned the amp in question,I would say it would drive 57's no problem at all.I used it with a pair of E R Audio ESLIII's and also pair of Acorns from the same company. This is a damn good amp,and I was also there when it was compared to the Unison. No contest,it walked all over it to my ears. Can be made even better converted to GM70 by all accounts.

Ali,
Thanks for the background, and the reassurance. Have read that the Liang wouldn't drive Martin Logans so I was a bit sceptical on the Quads

I used to drive my 57's with a Sugden A21 at 7w/ch.Drove them just fine,so I would say the Liang will have no problem.I think ML's are a worse load than the 57's?

Hi
I think what Ali says is probably true, but the logans and liang were mine at the time and it didnt put up such agood show, but in all honesty several big tranny amps I had didnt do much better so could be that the ml are not as easy to drive. You are quite wellcome to try your 57 on my amp as I am closer to you than Scotty,to give you an idea of the results.
Hope this helps Dave.

A good idea. You can get to hear what it sounds like with GM70's too.In any case,I don't think it's recommended by Quad to use amps more powerful than the Quad II's on 57's,so the Liang should be fine I think.

Hi Ali, I'm probably mad selling it! :mental:Started off just wanting to sell my Revolver Floorstanders as terrified the dog will knock them over. Struggling to find some standmounts to match the Revolvers so decided to try something completely different - active speakers - what's your thoughts?

Sorry Kev don't know anything about active speakers. There are a lot of class d modules on ebay though.Cheap and very good by all accounts.Might be worth fixing one each to the back of your speakers.Cheap way of doing it.

Loads of options but no way of knowing which is best - I used to have some Alesis M1 mk2 actives that were very good - difficult to compare to what I have now though -they probably sound poor in comparison.

Considered those but don't need the dac and not very big ie bass quality I believe is very good but just not that deep. Think I'll go for the dual concentric Tannoy 8D's. Should go well with my Marantz SACD player - I hope!:)

Was gonna say get some big Tannoy's - dog might run into the once and then realise they are an immoveable force:) - Mine weigh about 75kg each and have a broad base...

Must get to hear a Dr L one day.

Okay Steve, I'll take them! No way can they be dislodged - I hasten to ad that they never have been knocked over, it's just that I have to move one speaker in and out to make sure he doesn't - I'd have to kill him if he did:eyebrows:

However, my wife might knock me over if I go for Tannoys:(

That's the second time you've done that! We'll see what it's like driven by the Pre2.Supposed to be better driven with a pre.Be interesting to compare it to the 5881 too.

Mr Liang has to go this time!

Require funds for new car, hence Mr Liang with mods up for sale. This one used to belong to Ali Tait so quite well known on here.

2 inputs and 230 volt transformers.

I've re-valved with 845B's from Icon Audio, Harma 5881's from Watford valves and some NOS RCA's all in the last 3 months.

Spare valves included (2 used 845's, 4 5881's and 4
ac7's).

Comes with cage and box for shipping.

Looking for 600gbp plus postage. (given my investment in new valves). Collection preferred as weighs approx 80lbs.

I won't wax lyrical as it is obviously fantastic!
