View Full Version : Looking for some CNC Metal working

Hi all.

I'm looking for some speaker stablisers making which look like this.

Does anyone know of someone who can makes some of these or similar? The adujsters would need to be threaded to 8mm.

Each would be approx 70cm in length, 8cm depth and 6 to 8mm thick?

Basically they would attach to the bottom of a wood base.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edited photo, you can see detail better. It's not a CNC job (necessarily). Machined flat bar.

LOL... Thanks, I guess they are really.

Whichever I suppose. So long as they are done properly.

Material wise, I suppose Aluminium or some other kind of composite would also work I suppose so long as it's very strong.

Look for somewhere local that can do water jet cutting.

I've looked but everywhere wants me to order a minimum of 100pcs or more.

Do they need to be exactly like that? The slots and narrowed ends seem to have no particular function, or do they need to be that shape to fit something? Otherwise, I'd think just straight flat bar with radiused ends would do. A small engineering shop could make the bars with no bother.

No not at all... They just need securing holes into the central area (maybe 4) not any slots. Rounded ends and a threaded hole in each end.

Thing is, I'd like them powder coated.

Just wondered if anyone here might be able to do it. I have no idea where a machine shop is.

You could try a blacksmiths to make the plates for you, quite a few in your neck of the woods.

For example:

But most of all you would need to provide a drawing with dimensions.

Josie, these are simple to make and do not need any specialist CNC etc work.

Best material is either stainless (can be polished) or mild steel (spray colour). Cost difference for either would be small as main cost is labour and this is mainly for the lathe work on the cones/adusters. Cutting the bar material is only about 30mins and the same for milling the slots (simple holes would be cheaper as its only drill work) Keep to a simple spike to keep costs low as the cones would be a bit more work as would fancy flat adjusters on top in some other material

Your best bet is a small local engineering shop

Typical labour costs are around £50 per hour and I would estimate 2 hours work for 4 of these supports.

If these costs don't frighten you let me know and I will get a firm quote for you but will need more info which we can discuss via pm.

They were a present from my father to reduce the risk my my little girl pulling the speakers over. And they work great.
