The Glanz MH-124S has just been reviewed by Nick Tate and Paul Miller in the March 2018 edition of HiFi News magazine. They liked it very much and gave it their 'Editor's Choice' award. We will have the full review available for download from our website soon.

The review summary reads:

'Don't be fooled by its 1970s-style retro appearance, for the Glanz MH-124S is an absolutely top-tier modern tonearm whose sound quality leaves nothing to be desired. Indeed, it easily stands comparison with the most respected rival designs from the past few decades. It is lovingly built, beautifully finished and a joy to use - making it extremely good value for money, even at its not inconsiderable price.'

The Glanz MH-4S Series arms are available in 9", 10" and 12" versions, all priced the same at £5600

A lucky customer's Glanz MH-94S tonearm playing very nicely after test mounting on my Technics SL-1200GR turntable, with Ammonite Audio modular machined armboard (which will be changed for a silver one in due course). Not wishing to risk marking the Glanz headshell, here the arm is fitted with a Timestep ebony headshell (https://ammonite-audio.co.uk/product/timestep-t-01hs-ebony-headshell/)and my NOS Kontrapunkt B cartridge. The only complication with mounting this arm on a Technics deck is that Glanz provide a lovely machined stainless steel flange to go under the collar, but it's too big to fit this application, so Speedy Steve came to the rescue with a bespoke smaller flange, in stainless steel.

The Glanz is shockingly good and lives up to the HFN review in every way. Such depth of sound, definition, musical articulation, with very low surface noise too - I've never heard the Kontrapunkt B sound so majestic and refined! It's going to be hard packing this one up to be sent to its lucky owner.

I'm not kidding - this Glanz is the loveliest thing that I think I've ever heard on a record player. And that's with a Kontrapunkt B!

Have you heard the mid price 5k arm Hugo, how does it stack up against the Reed?

Have you heard the mid price 5k arm Hugo, how does it stack up against the Reed?

This one is the mid-price £5.6k version. I'll be very pleased if anyone wants the £13k version!

It's a bit difficult to compare with the Reed because it won't fit on this deck, being a 12" arm. Your 3P is the best Reed, a clear improvement on the cheaper Reed 12" 2G that I have here, but it's a middle mass arm at a shade under 20g and the Glanz is very much a heavyweight at 30g. If we are talking about using cartridges that require a bit of 'heft' behind them, I'd say (working from memory here) that the Glanz has a much more solid presentation, a fantastic way with detail and soundstaging, and much better dynamics. I'm still reeling after the first few notes played through the Glanz today - it is truly astonishing, and an old Decca LP of Ashkenazy playing Chopin was startlingly real. The Glanz is 30% more expensive than a Reed 3P and that shows, I believe, but the 3P is nevertheless a lovely thing to use and to hear.

I hope that helps!

What is the pivot to spindle of the 12" Hugo.... Also what is the supplied lead cast from?

All dimensions are on the product page in my shop at https://ammonite-audio.co.uk/product/glanz-s-series-tonearm/ . Scroll down and you'll see a table of specifications - the spindle to pivot distance is quaintly termed 'Practical Length' which is 290mm for the 12" version. I don't know what the supplied cable is made from, but it does look and feel very nice and it is a Glanz product and not a third party item.

I've just ordered a 9" Glanz MH-94S for myself to go on the SL-1200GR. Life is simply not going to be the same when this one get packed up and sent to its very fortunate owner! I'm hopelessly smitten by this arm, and whatever I've thrown at it, it has delivered majestic music like I've not quite heard before.

Depending on how much I have to shell out to get the damage done to my Ref 75 sorted out you might very well have a 12" order very soon.
