Pharos
10-02-2018, 09:16
Adam you should not have said that, because it is true, and also inexcusable.

There is better education available today, and PC ensures that people are not as F***** U* as people of my age were with intimidation, bullying, and constant disparagement.

The technology is so powerful now that it makes what was available 50 years ago seem primitive.

So why are there so few creatively profound art music pieces being produced now, this indicated by the drastic fall in serious music consumption, and lack of commitment to high quality sound listening?

There also may be some truth in your 'old men' statement, and also Paul's; now my ears have top loss I have at last got speakers that go up to 50K flat, and the cat notices it.

Firstly, dismember it (a meat cleaver is good for chopping through the bone), then get a nice sharp paring knife and slowly tease the flesh off from the bone.

Pop the fleshy matter into a mincer, then pulp it up into a smooth, but slightly chunky consistency, and sell it to the local kebab shop as Donner meat. If it's cheap enough they won't care. Then simply incinerate the bones, skull and remainder of the carcass until it turns to powder. Flush the powder down the loo.

Worked for me the last time.

https://image.ibb.co/i1ruMS/image.jpg (https://imgbb.com/)

Haha - that's a belter! Looking from the OUTSIDE in, at 'forbidden fruits'...I can think of plenty who qualify:lol:

The answer to your question is simple:

Because they suffer from an acute form of 'entitlement syndrome' [the misguided belief that one is 'entitled' to do whatever one likes, and behave in the most crass and intolerably obnoxious way imaginable, without consequences), which is a disease of near-epidemic proportions now in today's 'me first' society - and when the ability to behave that way has been removed from them, they can't cope.

Couple that with the perpetrators of such almost always qualifying as eternal malcontents/depressives, often with little else in life to 'amuse' them, and a fragile ego continually needing 'stroked' - and the resulting void in their world left from such bans becomes unbearable. They are also unable to accept responsibility for their actions.

Therefore, they have to create another way of 'being heard', and protest their innocence, subsequently showcasing their bitter resentment towards all whom they consider have 'wronged them', whilst displaying ample evidence of mental instability [and no small degree of delusion], or at best a rather 'abstract' view of reality, for the collective amusement of anyone reading it.

Normal people (with a life), when they're banned from a forum, simply dry their eyes and get over it, then move on with their lives, as they have plenty else to fill that void. Trouble is, when you don't have much of a life, and are also inflicted with a continual and unhealthy craving for attention, that's easier said than done;)

I prefer the rather quaint colloquial term of endearment, commonly known in Glasgow as "zoomer", such as might be used when sauntering around town on a summer's morning, and one should chance upon an acquaintance, whereupon one would greet them thus:

"Awwright, ya zoomer?"

Nothing else, for me, is so uniquely poetic.

I couldn't agree more mate (me neither), and yet with all your physical 'challenges', you've got good reason to be glum!

Del gets the same reaction from the students she teaches, who often ask her why she's so relaxed and chilled out (and her classes reflect that vibe), when all their other tutors are stressed out to buggery, moody bastards? That, along with her teaching ability, is the main reason why she's so popular with the kids, and they respect her. It's also why she gets results!

Her answer to that question is always simple: she's relaxed and chilled out, and brings that atmosphere into the classes where she teaches, simply because she's happy at home, where there's no stress or aggro (as we rarely argue), and with her life in general. Plus, she loves her job. Not everyone can say that these days :)

Quite simply, life's too short not to be happy and make the most of what you've got!

...if you've got sufficient disposable income to fund a hi-fi habit...
A "hi-fi habit" can be extremely expensive if you read Hi-Fi News and think that's what hi-fi is, but it can be quite a cheap habit too, particularly if you're into DIY hi-fi. For example, you could build a pair of speakers with fairly cheap drivers, learn a lot in the process, spend a lot of happy hours designing and measuring them and evaluating and refining them, and it doesn't have to cost a lot of money. You could even buy a cheap pair of speakers from a charity shop and indulge your DIY creativity with them for peanuts.
Anyway, I'm just saying that hi-fi doesn't have to be about buying Krell amps or Martin Logan speakers every few months.

Absolutely, Andrew. I completely agree! :)

However, my point was mainly that if you have sufficient disposable income to 'dick around' with hi-fi equipment (DIY or otherwise), and don't need to worry about having a roof over your head or putting food on the table, then you *should* be happy, as millions of others around the world don't have that luxury.

The problem is, folks these days want way too much, and consequently complicate their lives, sometimes to ridiculous degrees, in order to get it (and/or in the process choose to be with the wrong people), to the point that their lives (and hobbies) are no longer enjoyable...

The solution is often to want for less 'stuff' (material possessions) and simplify your life accordingly, whilst dumping any joy-drainers, dragging you down. And that doesn't just apply to hi-fi enthusiasts!

Marco.

Hear, hear (on all counts)! :exactly::grouphug:

The bit in bold, however, is what makes AoS different, and not simply a soulless 'hi-fi forum'...

Nah, completely wrong - it's all about accumulating stuff. If you're not happy, you ain't got enough stuff!

I was only joking. I actually live quite a simple life. Could do with a bit of de-cluttering though.

Your point about stuff Marco is very relevant to a marked change over the last 50 years in people's material expectations.

This desire for more and more stuff, perpetuated by comparison with others doing the same, was incepted by Edward Bernhays, Freud's nephew, and founder of Public Relations.

In essence he worked on the psychology of persuading people to buy things on the basis of wants rather than needs, and wants can be 'created' with sophisticated seduction.

If we have possessions which are not in current use as a tool for living, or a part of a fulfilling and progressive life, they are IMO irrelevant and a waste of resources and earning power.

I live a very simple life as well, and I own very little anymore. But, the things I do own are nice, things to be proud of, I dislike junky stuff, I’d rather go without until I can get something worth having.

Whose pee-stained pants are those, lying face-up on the floor?

Who here dresses up in their wife's knickers [permanently stretching them in the process], and prances around the lounge to Prince, when she's out?

Whom shall I nominate as chief 'AoS daftee' 2018?

Answers on a postcard? Whose using postcards these days? Sorry, I promise, no more from me.

Anyway, my answers are: mine, me and me.

Not sure what qualifies as 'daftee' though. I thought that was just yours and Audio Al's thing, but hey, if you guys are looking to spice things up, just leave out a fruit bowl for people to deposit their keys, and take yer pick.
