Another scratchy itch

Do any of you good people see something you like and you can't sleep until you've bought it. I've got one right now, a new guitar I've been looking at for a week now and trying to resist,I made an offer today and it was declined, so I think I may have got away with it as I feel I've made my offer and have been knocked back. There's no guarantee I won't be tempted to offer more though.

I do it all the time. Sometimes I get an obsessive itch to buy something and then hardly ever use it. Total waste sometimes, but the buzz of wanting something is part of the fun, and it's not as though I spend big money on these whims.

Fret king country squire semi tone. I ve had loads of fender strats and gibsons, just sold my fret less bass and selling a quality acoustic. Have a fender telemaster and a strat but just fancy this fret King. If I lived alone I would have loads lined up in the lounge ready to choose from.

That's it, saga musical instruments. Looks like the fret King is a non starter, seller listed with make an offer and then tells me it's full price only. Anyway, seen a prs spalted maple top, never had a prs before so maybe give one a try. If I don't get to play often at least it will look pretty.

LOL, I had the same thing just over a year ago when I bought an Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy Custom GX. Had to have it so bought it. Sounded bloody lovely through my then valve head/cab.

Im about to give my cheap acoustic guitar to the charity shop or local busker. I cant get two chords out of it as there seems no coordination in my fingers. Im on lesson one on YT and I cant even switch between the two starter chords or get the tips of my fingers not to interfere with the other strings...thats just on a two finger chord :(

I know that feeling, thought I would never manage a (barre) Cm but now it's easy-peasy, some simple looking chords still trip me up though e.g. the simple Dm using first three frets. Small hands doesn't help - by the way I have a small scale classical for sale if anyone needs one it's 628mm. Details by PM.

Ah, I had a Gibson ES175 with a fat neck, couldn't get on with that either and it looked gorgeous. Perhaps I should just pay the asking price of the fret King and have done with it.

Bit of a quandary, I like a wide neck for picking but not a fat neck, the prs tremonti seems to be a fat wide neck but some are saying they are not all fat necks. I've always liked vintage Gibson Les Paul necks but having said that I also like strat necks.

Seller that insisted it was full price only for the fret King has e mailed me a reduced price. It's reasonable as it includes post but listing ends in March so he can sweat for now, maybe he will reduce the price further. It's a buyers market if you are prepared to miss out.

Passed on that particular guitar but made an offer on another nearer to home and pick it up Thursday. Sold my guy Trameleuc so still gave some change after buying the fret King, happy days.

I don't play these much any more, in fact they are living in their cases now. There's a Mexican Strat, Precision bass and an Ibanez active bass I bought a coupled of years ago, really thin neck, thinner than my old Rickenbacker and incredibly fast.

The chap I bought it from, lovely man, had several fret King guitars and racks of other nice guitars, he said he had arthritis in his hands and was selling much of his collection but I suspect he was a dealer, nothing wrong with that, just he sent me a message " thanks for the order " which made me think that. Not a problem we both were happy with the deal. Only thing I need to do is file the sharp fret ends.

Either lessons or you tube,masses of tuition there. I'm looking at drop tuning, I know some tunings but found much more and you can still use the same chord shapes and get some nice sounds. Check out Matt smith open D tuning. Quite a character.
One thing leads to another and I found a guy that showed how to play a guitar solo on one fret, key of a minor, playing up and down the 5th fret, then 5th to 4th fret up and down all strings, then 7th to 5th fret up and down. So simple but impressive, like jazz guitar. I've been playing 49 years and looking at what's on you tube I know nothing. So time to learn new things and a new guitar always brings motivation

I quite enjoyed my one-to-one lessons to be honest but found that I didn't practice enough in between each lesson

A nice purchase Paul! Beautiful guitar! I dabble in Luthery here and there, mostly for myself and friends. But my itch right now is a Yamaha BX-1 bass. They used to be rare as hens teeth! But now I see several on eBay, all in Japan, one in Russia. The price is Ok, I’m just a bit leery to buy from so far away. (I’m in Virginia, USA) Do you have any experience buying guitars from Japan and other far away places? Am I right to worry? Or should I pull the trigger and buy one? They were only made for a few years back in the 80’s, so there aren’t that many around anymore.

But now I see several on eBay, all in Japan, one in Russia. The price is Ok, I’m just a bit leery to buy from so far away. (I’m in Virginia, USA) Do you have any experience buying guitars from Japan and other far away places? Am I right to worry? Or should I pull the trigger and buy one? They were only made for a few years back in the 80’s, so there aren’t that many around anymore.

I bought a fret less bass from Dave Bauer of unorthodox guitars in Fort Wayne Indiana, I did insist he put it in a hard case I paid extra for. I recently sent it to Scotland and it arrived fine. My Denon dp80 came from Japan and only the strobe light didn't work. I've bought several guitars and had them posted.
