Fairly cool at 5C, but bright and sunny with a few fluffy clouds. Could be a nice day.
Sunny but very cold, with a biting wind. Got at least a week's worth of this according to the forecast.

I was lucky. The rain eased enough for about three quarters of an hour for me to walk the dog. We only got a bit damp. :)
was sunny today. not freezing as no wind... got to dump to free up space. the guy there helped unload

Typical Irish weather today: rain, strong winds, heavy fog, followed by an unexpected sunny spell. Spent a lovely afternoon visiting the Kilkenny castle.

I always think of the line " February made me shiver" to remind me that Winter is far from over.
I was out feeding the ducks yesterday. Pond was flooded with do not enter tape everywhere. Grey miserable and about 3 degrees. They seem remarkably hardy those ducks and coots. The pond is frozen now but I dont know how they get through these temperatures in the cold water. I know water runs off a ducks back but I would rather be hibernating
fair bit of snow overnight with more forecast. Car has been cleared as \i have the hospital to go to. Fortunately it was fairly fluffy stuff and cleared well.
Cold. Gone back to bed, happy days

It's cold today and was cold yesterday, but tomorrow is forecast to be very bitter, with widespread snow.

It was snowing yesterday evening, but not too much, and by the morning all the white stuff was gone.

On of those steady winds yesterday. Slightly deceptive in that the trees were not really shaking but strong enough for the wind chill to really bite. 5 degrees but felt much colder....bitter wind.

The posh place down the road from me, where you went for lunch at MiBO. Had a fillet steak and chips, very good it was too.

It started pissing down before lunch. Dog didn't get a walk, so I took the time to have a bath, the water was grey by the time I finished, probably down to me disc cutting dead plaster from walls in the last day or so and getting covered in dust.
...or the fact that it's your first one for 6 months!:D

Ditto. Lovely and dark and wintry here... Got the log fire burning away nicely, and some candles lit, so the room is all warm and cosy. Love it! :cool:

back to white here. cold again so unlikely to melt quickly
Odd day yesterday. Very windy. Sleet to begin with, turning to hail. Sounded like someone throwing gravel at the windows. Then a sunny spell. Thought I would take advantage to nip down the Chinese for my tea. Needless to say got a couple of hundred yards and it started again. Only this time it was miniature hail. Tiny little balls if it. That was just before dark so it froze and everywhere now has a coating of it.

It really is a lovely day today. Blazing sunshine and blue sky, makes a change after so much recent gloom. A definite hint of approaching spring. Walking the pooch shortly, should be enjoyable.
about 5c here, with mix of light cloud and sun.. been an odd shower too. still, its not too shabby and am pleased as im having to go to shops; i will take one of my fedora's tho :ner:

It was great out earlier. No need for gloves or a zipped up jacket, it actually felt almost warm. That makes a nice change.

Very cold here, very dry too, highly unusual for these parts. There's a bitter wind, blowing right up my frock. Thought I'd order a curry to warm me up; one and a half hour wait! Looks like everyone had the same idea before I did.

Back to work tomorrow, my commute is March in Cambridgeshire to Heathrow maybe via Luton airport (May give this a miss as it's really exposed up on that hill), in theory I will get on my motorbike at 9am and get to either our depot in Hayes or my digs in Colnbrook for about 11:30 but I may delay my start as it's saying minus 6 for the morning with a top temp of minus 1 for later on.

The most important thing if you're travelling a reasonable distance, is to stay safe, drive/ride with due caution, wear warm clothes and take blankets (scarfs and gloves) and some food and drink supplies with you, in case the worst should happen, and you end up stranded on a motorway overnight - or longer!
Although, that's unlikely if you're on a motorbike... However, if your potential journey looks to be too hazardous to tackle, then STAY AT HOME. Trying to get to work isn't woth risking your life for :nono:
Oh, and if you're in a car, pack a snow shovel, in case you have to dig yourself out of a car park or whatever, and take some de-icer with you.
Me? I'll be hibernating until it's all over [got plenty of supplies in], but enjoying looking out the window at the 'winter wonderland' unfolding in front of me, from the warmth of my house... The perfect time to watch some good movies on the home-cinema system!! :cool:
Thursday and Friday here is when the snow is forecast to be at its peak.

Keeping warm on a bike in winter is an art. I used to ride/commute all year round. It was quite good fun zooming through four inches of snow on a little trail bike between virtually stuck other traffic.
The worst thing I found was the snot from a runny nose (as it gets so cold when riding) blowing onto your visor, making visibility even more of a 'challenge'!

Wearing lots of layers of clothes (the outer ones being windproof) is the answer to staying warm, and that's when you're wife's wooly tights also come in handy!:eyebrows:

Not only were the relevant authorities warned, but folks travelling too, if they were watching the weather forecasts. When such heavy snow is predicted, the safest thing to do is stay at home - far better that than becoming part of a stationary 'car park', posing as a motorway!
If they did that, then in such bad conditions there would be far less traffic chaos on the roads....

Yeah. It's the main route up from Dover and extremely busy. I'd have thought they'd have been geared up to deal with the snow.

Hate to say it but it's been a lovely bright and sunny day here. Went to Cambridge, around 20 miles away and barely saw any white, except on our front path. Probably going to suffer on Thursday, though.

-8 degrees C this morning, but no need to scrape the ice off the car.
wind is a bit stronger now, causing -7c of windchill. still snowing but so far its been fairly dry powdery stuff and not lying terribly much, but will get a grip soon. in fact starting to now as flakes get bigger

Nothing like a nice dog food sandwich washed down with some semi-skimmed :D

I live close to HiFi Dave and yes it has been sunny here, with just a little bit of snow now and again. Very cold though. So cold I got an ice cream headache from breathing in the cold air during my run today.
Snowing here and bitter too. Booked the day of work for tomorrow. Can't be arsed struggling in. Traffic is bad here even when the weather is good; in snow and ice it is catastrophic.
Got home tonight in record time though since everyone else seems to have knocked off early due to the conditions.
Stopped here, just a light coating but it has stuck. My house is not really equipped to cope with any temp below about 4 c so it is bit nippy in here tonight. Need to do more draughtproofing tomorrow I think.
We've currently got about 3 inches of snow. Just been out dragging two green bins full of garden refuse, a grey food-recycling bin and a three stacked-up boxes for paper, plastics and cans, and glass, down our rather long drive, to be collected tomorrow - made all the more 'fun' with the snow! :eyebrows:

Just been down the shop and it is properly cold. Coldest since 2010/11 here, no question. The dusting of snow is starting to freeze over but the main roads are clear.
But it is bitterly cold. I've worked in refrigerated (4c) and frozen (-28c) warehouses, 4c is balmy once you are used to it, then the outside is too warm. Minus 28 I never got used to. You had to wear a full padded environment suit. We'd seal all the rips with duct tape. They don't let you do that no more.
Good money though.

Been snowing in South Wales by the sea today, that doesn't happen often. Not settled though and it's clear out there right now, just bollocks freezing at about -3 right now.
Where you living now Tim? Welsh Wales? Bit of a change from China. I can't keep up with you man.
Yes, Wales on the coast west of Cardiff. Fully retired now so the China adventure is finished, still got friends out there, so will pop over occasionally.
Will be moving again when this place sells, but that will be it - I can finally get rid of all the boxes/crates, set up my stereo for good and take it easy :)

We'd love to move over to the West at some point, so where would you recommend that's scenic, off the beaten track [we like the 'land that time forgot' aspect of things] but also near a reasonable-sized town, so we could do some basic shopping? :cool:

We live in Loughor, so only just Gower, but only a short drive to all the stunning beauty spots...love Mumbles, especially Verdi's.

Ah, nice one, Malcolm - and noted. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near Swansea (as we don't like living near cities, where it gets too built up and busy) or too near to South West Wales. Central West Wales or North West Wales would be better, so geographically St David's looked ideal :)
What are the roads round there like, outside of towns - are they generally pretty empty? That's what I'm used to here in North Wales, and would want it the same, if we move to the West, as I love driving around the countryside and having the road virtually to myself! :cool:

Yup, the bit in bold doesn't surprise me, but I could handle that. I've been to Aberystwyth and Builth Wells, and loved them, although the latter is a little too central (and inland). I'd prefer being somewhere which you can't easily pass through, in order to get to it (you have to make an effort to do so), if you know what I mean?
Will check out the other places you mentioned. The "hippy" thing appeals, as one of the things we love are places where life hasn't really changed much in 40-odd years! We like a quiet, laid-back lifestyle, where the pace of life is slow and people have time for each other, and where there is a strong community spirit.
We also love towns full of independent shops, such as family-owned butchers, fishmongers, bakers - that kind of thing, so we could always buy fresh local produce :)

Ah no, that's a business belonging to a friend. However, both my wife and I are 'arty', especially my wife, as she has a degree in art and textiles, which she now teaches in a local college.
We live in an old lodge house, so have recently been installing some original Victorian stained glass-panelled doors, and Harry (the guy who owns the stained glass company in question) is top notch!
I have a picture framing business, which I run from home, although only do the odd few jobs now.

Lol yeah, we're country and/or (remote) seaside people at heart - really anywhere WELL away from the hustle and bustle of modern day life, where we can divorce ourselves from 'the system'/rat-race, and be as self-sufficient as possible! And Del's a big greeny, so likes 'living off the land', as it were, as she was used to it as a kid :)
I'm into that too, and would also like to have more space at home for when we entertain friends and family, so a dedicated dining room would be great, as well as somewhere I could house a full-sized snooker table and fully-stocked bar, perhaps have a wine cellar, plus dedicated rooms for the hi-fi and home-cinema system - and really go to town on the latter, with a projector/screen, etc, and rows of vintage cinema seats. I might even treat myself to a pair of Tannoy Westminsters!
We'll see what the future brings, in the next 10 years or so, but that's the plan anyway :cool:

We have 1.5 inches of lovely, fluffy snow, which looks beautiful especially when the Sun shines. It's started to snow heavily again and the Sun is shining.
It's nice and warm indoors but my worry is that I have a very important appointment in Cambridge tomorrow and might not be able to make it.

Here it's coming in spurts - heavy for 10 mins or so, then it stops and brightens up, then goes dark and starts snowing again... That cycle has been repeated all day. Managed to nick out and get some shopping done during an earlier lull.

Went down the chippy and it was closed due to the weather! Had to have a (not very good) pizza from Sainsburys instead.

I learnt my lesson about 10 years ago, was in Florida for Christmas and New Year, came back to a pretty much wrecked house due to burst pipes in loft, didn't move back in until Easter.

Mine'll be OK. Mind you we both lost our footing yesterday and ended up on backsides. It was very slippery on the fozen mud paths, fields were OK though.

Well, looks like I made a good choice. ( with big thanks to Grant/Struth ) in not driving up yesterday.
Some folks stranded for 13 hours, spending the night in cars, cars dumped, 8 mile tailbacks. All this just on the M80, which I would have been on yesterday afternoon. And I was going north of that. !!!!!
My visit can wait.

tried opening back door but its jammed on something. about 2 foot of snow up against the net which i think is jammed under the door a bit.

Thank God the issue of no running water is same for neighbours and being dealt with by Thames Water.

Ours is on, flat out, all stats wide open, but it's still only just holding at +19C
house is toasty.. heating steady at 22c, and set to 21c. if kitchen isnt heated you can always open door of oven and put that on. stops the warm air being sucked out of living area

I wholeheartedly agree with your latter statement, and so we rarely heat the bedroom (simply use an electric blanket or hot water bottles in bed, during the coldest parts of winter), but even if I lived alone, I'd ensure that my house was warm and comfortable throughout, FIRST, before I spend a cent on a flat-screen TV or hi-fi!;)

For me, a warm, comfy house comes FIRST. A 'fancy' TV and hi-fi come second (or perhaps even further down the priority list than that). These days, I'd probably take having a nice car before a 'fancy' hi-fi.

Funny how one adjusts. I seem to have acclimatised to the sub-zero temperatures somewhat and have not really noticed the cold much for the last few days. Mind you, I used to work outside all year round, so that may have something to do with it.
Lol, could be... I just enjoy the different seasons for what they are, so would no sooner crave summer weather in winter, than vice versa! Plus, I love the snow.
Mind you, it helps if you can toast yourself in front of a roaring log fire, and be nice and comfy indoors, when the weather's like this. I doubt I could cope if my house was cold or damp.

I could have both but the house needs so much work doing that I would have to move out for at least a couple of months while it was done. It needs almost a complete rebuild. I mean it only cost £29K and you don't get much for that even round here. And moving out for a few months just isn't practical until I finish working. It's still warmer than the house I grew up in, so not really a big deal. All depends on what you are used to.
Fair enough, but what about these brothers you've mentioned... Do they live near? If so, couldn't they put you up for a while until you get the necessary work done? Families helping each other out and all that :)

No, they don't live near. Liverpool and Nottingham. I do have friends I could potentially impose on, trouble is the amount of time it will take. If it was two weeks then I might consider asking a friend, but asking someone to put you up for three months is taking the piss. I couldn't cope with that anyway. I like my solitude.
