I received my new speakers last week....Eddingdale MK2 hybrid version with the Satori tweeter.
Colin Topps ( Toppsy)who builds them brought them up with Chris (Stratmangler). A long drive for both of them but greatly appreciated on my part as the postage was going to be eye watering.
I treated the lads to some grub and a brew then we sat down and Listened to my 57s.
I had purchased the 57s from Colin a few years ago-they are on Colins design of stand and reinforced side cheeks to combat flexing. I love them to bits Chris is purple faced peg leg jake ball fan (John Martyn).
We sat nattering and enjoying a few tunes-it was an education for me both lads are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic both about kit and music.
Colin set the Eddies up...I went for spikes as my floors are all carpeted, he also does neet wee flat feet that rotate on a ball that wont mark flooring.
There is another thread on here ( heads up for wee tee cee) that has pics for you to look at Colins work.
They dont do justice to the standard of fit and finish-the lining up of the patterns of the walnut veneer is beautiful.
Proofs in the pudding- straight from cold they just blew me away.
They have the mid range of the 57s with the incredible imaging and instrument placement but just blow them out the water at the frequency extremes.
They have a bass articulation and delicacy in treble that is just mind blowing.
I was not listening to a lot of rock as the 57s do it but dont really dig it.
The Eddies just cant be wrong footed with any material.
My son invited one his mates round who is also into hi fi- they were both blown away and had to be bribed to let me get a listen.
Ive had a play about with positioning and speaker wires-they have just got better and better.
Blagged my sons tq black....now yer talking!!!
Pulled the trigger on some EWA wire ordered direct from Mr Wonfor himself after a wee chat with the big man.
The 57s are great speakers but will be going up for sale shortly-hopefully find a good home with one of the troops.
The Eddingdales have gave me the best noise ive ever had in my listening room.
Big thanks to Colin and Chris for bringing them to Gods country.
Will try to get the troops across for a wee session.
Gary (Gazjam) has mk1s and says with hours on them they will only get better-im over the moon.

Looking good. What's the sensitivity of those? Assuming a series/parallel set up for the bass drivers, I'm guessing around 90db.
dunno, but maybe a fair bit better. the mk1's are mid 90's i think

Thanks Grant, greatly appreciated im a bit of a manto when it comes to IT stuff.
Geoff Colin say about 95 db- they work really well with tubes/ t amps.
Toppsy developed these in conjunction with Nick Goreham who is now buildin SS amps.
Im all solid state, Colin took this into account with the build-chris helped with crossover stuff to get it spot on.
What a great job the lads did...they are fantastic!
Oh boy do they do ROCK!!!!

Ive got one of Colin Wonfors ewa m50 power amps driving them with a Tq claymore as pre.
My goodness led zep is sounding rather tasty.

I just lend my ears from time to time, and give my honest opinion.
That Satori tweeter is up at the top of my favourites list.
Quite how it retrieves as much detail as it does without having a forward tilted response is beyond me - I've heard detail in details that I thought I knew well, it's that good ...

I totally agree. I was very lucky to hear the previous version ( prior to the Satori tweeter / crossover) upgrade at Vinlyspinners and it was pretty good then!

Hi Tony,
So glad you are liking the speakers. It was a pleasure to build and develop these for you and yes they do really cut the mustard don't they. The tweeter is the Satori TW29RN-B which is the neo magnet version of the standard Satori tweeter. Well worth paying the extra over the standard as you can clearly hear the benefits. Scott did a brilliant job of redesigning the filter for these and Chris and me only needed to do minor tweaking to a resistor change to get them on song during the listening fine tuning.
In fact so pleased are we of this hybrid that it will be offered as the EDINGDALE SR, an upgrade version to the standard Edingdale MKII that is in itself an improvement on the original MKI as testified by all that have the heard the MKII and also have heard the MKI or are owners of the original MKI Edingdales.
Just a few points to clarify.
Tony now how can you get your hardwoods mixed up? The speakers are finished in Oak veneer NOT Walnut as we agreed early in the build.
The efficiency of the speakers is a conservative 95dB and a benign nominal 8-Ohm load.
The speakers may look large but are a modest 110cm high x 40cm deep and 25cm wide, around 80L cabinet volume. They take up no more room than your average standmounts. They are also very tolerant to room position and can be placed quite close to a rear wall.
They are as happy being driven by a 300B 5W SET amp as they are using 120W MosFet SS amps, T-amps (Chip amps) or 60W push-pull valve amps. So you can just about throw any amp at them and get stunning results.
How much did you spend on them!!! They are beautiful.

Oh I forgot to mention that apart from offering the hybrids as Tony has got we are also developing an all Satori driver version of the Edingdales with the TW29BN-B SATORI BLACK BERYLLIUM DOME TWEETER. This speaker has promises to be even better than the SR version. However this a few months off before they will be ready.

your constant build upgrade e mails were wonderful-glad i took your advice re the tweeter, money well spent IMHO.
Im just in awe at what you have produced, aesthetically and sonically.
Moved them further out from the fireplace, to let them breathe a bit.
They deserve top notch cabling by the way...
EWA stuff winging its way to me (gaz runs tq ultra-thought WTF if im doing it right go all the way!!)

It was no problem for me to deliver them and yes the overall cost of couriering the speakers up to you was a little staggering. It wasn't the cost of shipping them from Lancashire to Glasgow that was reasonable, it was the additional cost of around £130 per speaker the robbing bastards wanted to insure them for £2K :stalks:

Bought my 57s from Colin 5 years ago....me and Lou had travelled down to get them-Coli asked if we had 5 minutes to hear his latest design...
was blown away!!!
Im very proud to have Colin invest his abilities and network of friends to have produced these for me.

We ceased making these a while ago as they cost near as much to make as the basic Edingdales. However I still have a small stock of the drivers so could make up a pair to order.
I'll have to speak to Scott first as the XO on those was quite complicated and expensive in components so I'll have to see if this can be redesigned to something on the same simpler and less complicated Edingdale topology to keep costs down.
The only issue I see is you auditioning the speakers as I don't have a Jenna owner anywhere near your neck of the woods.
They do not have the same performance envelope as the Edingdales with being only 4" mid-woofer drivers so wont go as deep in the bass. Having said that the bass performance is very good for the size of the speakers. Unfortunately one cannot defy the laws of physics.

speakers are about the most important part of the chain imo, and any upgrades I’ve done since getting my Eddies (and some were significant) the speakers stepped up every time.
If yours are better than the MK1’s, I’ll say again...last speakers you’ll buy. :)

I've heard the mark ones on a few occasions; massively impressive speakers that if they were built by some companies they would retail at ten grand. Fabulous bargain for a fifth of that price.

The cables cost nearly $200 dollars in make up from new york- for every hifi purchase there is an equal and opposite Lou purchase....like newtons law almost!!!!
Im blessed really...the EWA M100 will be some serious handbag/shoe/underwear purchases to bring balance to the force!
As Jim said earlier we had the last pair of Edingdale Mk1 at one of the NEBO events. Colin said they were for sale, demo model, so £1500. I was sorely tempted and I'm very fussy about speakers but they really do nothing wrong and pretty much everything to a very high standard if not the ultimate. But then what is the ultimate? (For me JBL 4365 and the Edingdales are not far off them). Steve (Floyddroid) bought them; I think that was the pair Gaz ended up with but I'm not sure.

Gaz took his then brand spanking new LDA 300B amp, and we had it doing motorboat noises because the mains voltage dropped to 218VAC.

Great speakers...privileged to have taken stewardship of them -you only live once!!
Yup, got mine brand new the same way Tony did.
Colin was a bugger in building the excitement with regular updates on my speaker build. Took mine down to Nebo 7 with my 300B amp. The speakers were fairly new but most folk were pretty happy with what they heard.
Said to Tony they take a long time to fully come on song, but even fresh out the packet they are pretty special.

The build updates and pictures as the build progressed really helped get my good lady on side.
I got them set up and sat her in front of them with a g & t....put some Ella/George Micheal/Prince on-she was smitten with the sound.
I very lucky Lou enjoys music as much as me.

Well the Eddies are really starting to settle down, against better logic i also changed speaker wire and my usb in close succession.
Its all starting to burn/run in.
Lou was out at a Ballet thing with her niece the other night- i was playing some tunes but accidentally tripped and the eddies ended up falling into the front room bumping the spendor sp1s out the road and miraculously connecting up to my av system.
It would be rude not to try some movies with them.
2 Channel set up with a tq claymore providing amp duties.
played a bit of dark knight/john wick/man of steel.
WTF!!!!
Might have to save my pennies and get another pair-maybe with the satori drivers and tweeter!
The amount of detail retrieval was eye watering-the attack with explosions and gun fire had me scrabbling for the remote.
Broke the news gently to Lou.....this could really cost me!!!

I've heard the all Satori speakers Colin built plenty of times, and they're excellent.
I'm looking forward to hearing what the beryllium tweeter can bring to the party - hopefully they'll be "the best tweeter you've never heard".
The Satori Neo units you have in your Edingdales, are extremely good in that respect, but if they can be bettered .... :eyebrows:

I'm looking to step up from some Rega RS5s that seem to be stretched to the end of their abilities on the end of a very heavily modified Yaqin 100B.
Can I ask for anyone who has them, how do they sound close to the rear wall as I'm a little pushed for space?

They are front ported so dont mind being close to the wall.(Colin confirmed this when he kindly delivered and installed them)
Mine are about 30 cm out have tried them even closer without detriment.
Gary has his MK1s very close to the wall without any problem.

My Rega's are front ported and work fine close to the wall, so these should be fine.
Certainly they are likely to work better with my room than the Dali Helicon 400s that I was considering...

As 'tother Tony mentioned they should be fine close up to a wall. What we can do is fine tune the cabinet alignment to optimise bass performance close up to a wall. This I would do after the speakers have been built and then make small changes to the port tube length until we reach the optimum port length. Should require no more than a 15mm increase in port length. However we would supply you with a slide on port extension tube to sleeve over the port which you can slide to shorten or lengthen the port length to optimise to your room.
I spoke to Scott, my design partner, who commented thus:
The Edingdale MkII / SR enclosure is designed with quite a well-damped alignment specifically to make it flexible in a variety of room positions. So as-is, it's reasonable near room boundaries. If it's to be placed right up against a heavily constructed wall, then we can tune a little lower to increase the damping of the alignment further. Physically it would be a small increase in vent length, so not difficult & it would still be short enough not to have any worries over vent self-harmonics. There shouldn't be any further changes needed.

A wee update....
The big Eddies are really starting to come on song.
I made too many system changes around the time i received them-
I changed my lap top/went to a lavri usb/ plumbed in EWA LS25/ went EWA power with my tq claymore as pre....then started mucking about with high end ingredients for ICs,
Brian made me a few interconnects, dipping our toe in the world of silver wire...well worth it IMHO.
My system is now sounding pretty good to my ears.
The big eddies have loosened up -the treble is far smoother with the bass feeling far more prominent and integrated -midrange was always exquisite and remains so.
Gary has MK1s and said they would take maybe a year to to settle down -he wasn't wrong.
The two Colins(Mr Wonfor and Mr Topps) have enable me to have a mighty fine noise in my listening room.
Will give it another six months to conclusively prove Gary's hypothesise.

The Big E's are about as "Buyers remorse" free as any purchase you can make, great they are doing the business for you.

Mr Wonfor is making a visit to Gods country later this summer-all going well he can get across here and try my cooking.
Have another visit to the saw doctor in the near future....all going well having the troops across for a wee get together would be good!!!

Hi Tony and Gang,
Yes I planed to come this or next week, then last week (Friday) the plumber came to fit a wet room so he said he be with us for 6day, then yesterday my poor Maria was rushed from work with a heart attack so she is staying in hospital so it will not be a trip until the week after my birthday at least i.e. 28th Aug onwards sorry Tony.
