Hi Andy,
It's exactly what it appears, it is an 85A2. It is a voltage reference tube similar to this
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/QUAD-RFT-Str-85-10-85A2-0G3-STV85-10-Voltage-Reference-Tube-NEW-SAME-CODE/263014886994?epid=168095732&hash=item3d3ce8ae52:g:l3EAAOSwxu5ZMC1F
My 211 power amps use them and I have a box full of NOS Amperex spares.

Alan, I wasn't 100% sure as some of the writing has worn away, but thanks for taking time to reply.

Ahhhh! Have you ever tried rolling them to assess the effects?

Yes ;)
Marco.
Hmmmm, according to some they shouldn't have any effect other than work as a voltage regulator.
