A I’m sorry Oliver, unfortunately it’s not for me. Perhaps it just doesn’t suit the Denon! Perhaps just super on other decks.

I'm glad you've moved it on so quickly and Nick has a great TT to put this on but I'm still purely stunned that you didn't like it.

Yes, Nick has the SP10.
Maybe because the Denon DP80 has a split platter, the Tenuto had an adverse effect. The sound produced was very clinical and I think lost some musicality. Hay Ho, we live and learn.
It would have been nice to keep just for the “Bling Factor”

I won’t go over everything the Bigman80 (Oliver) has already said but I totally agree with his comments. It’s made this deck into a SUPER DECK.

Anyway, if it's any consolation, I found precisely the same thing when I tried something similar (a solid copper mat) on my Techy: all hi-fi, no music. As ever, it's a synergy thing, so the Tenuto may well work great on other T/Ts (an SP10, for example).
If you're still looking for another mat, and fancy something a bit different, I'd thoroughly recommend the Nagaoka Crystal glass mat, which is what I use. It doesn't 'sound' of anything really, just supports the record properly and allows music to be faithfully reproduced, which is all a good T/T mat should do. Beautifully made, too :)

Yes indeed. I've had a music session over the weekend and the more I played the first impressions appeared to fade. There was nothing wrong but it all sounded very clinical.
Difficult to explain but the musicality had sort of disappeared. I originally thought I was hearing more information but that wasn't the case, and the music was fatiguing... Which it has never been before.
I'm sort of sorry for raving about it... Should have given it more time before making out it was fab. (Perhaps Great on a different TT)

No worries, mate. Just treat it as a learning curve. Always best to live with something for at least a week before forming any proper opinions on it. Anyway, I hope you find something that suits better soon - try a Nagaoka. It could be the answer :)

The Tenuto raised the level of clarity and transparency in my system but certainly doesn't sound clinical here...
As you say, may be a bad match but I still can't believe it hasn't worked out for you. Anyhoo, onwards we go!
The incident serves to highlight how important synergy is in hi-fi; especially when it comes to the constituent parts of a turntable, and where everything needs to work symbiotically, as a SYSTEM, not simply as a collection of disparate parts - which is why no tonearm, cartridge, mat, or anything else, is ever 'one size fits all'! ;)

Marco.Spot on Marco and to be fair, I've only ever heard Tenutos on SP10s so may explain my experience of pure positivity!!!
Yups... I've also heard them on SP10s, and been suitably impressed, so Peter's negative experience is no reflection of the Tenuto. Aside from anything else, one thing you need to consider is the effect of the (significant) added mass on the drive system.
I'm not sure about Peter's DP-80, but the SP10 has loads of torque, and so can comfortably handle the use of high-mass platter mats, such as the Tenuto. I'd also imagine big idler-driven T/Ts, such as Garrards and Lencos, to offer similar suitability.
You have to think about these sorts of things, and how compatible or not they might be with your gear, before shelling out big bucks on mats! :)

I like that analogy.... never looked at it from that perspective.
Also, I would consider that the DP80 to have as much if not more torque than the SP10... lol. (No bad comments please).

I still love mine wouldn't be without it. I'm listening now, put the rubber mat on and lost all the transparency and clarity. The Tenuto is a wonderful item.

The Tenuto is a wonderful item.i had to disagree with the chap on diy audio that rebuilt a dp80 with a CNC plinth, who said it sounded best with the rubber mat, but hadn't tried a copper mat. The rubber mat made it sound meh in comparison.

I am really sorry guys that I’ve disappointed.
But this my final words on the subject.
We all like what we like (yes). I have spent a lifetime trying to get the best I can afford. The ARCHE’ Headshell was the best ever upgrade, followed by the Dynavector and then the Whest PS30 RTD SE . The McIntosh has been my main stay for many years and the Revolvers have been a revelation.
Other stuff, has been and gone...... without a thought, but I don’t buy anything that I don’t think is worth a listen!!!!! DACs / SUTs included.
The McIntosh SACD is probably the icing on the cake... but again, not to everybody’s cup of tea.! Very costly!!!!
I really wanted the Tenuto to work........ but it was not to be. nothing wrong... but not quite right.
Perhaps it’s something to do with my age (an old git) but who knows.
Happy again with the kit I’ve got......... the way it is.
For those doubting..... ask Nigel (aka Vinlyspinner) he has heard the best I have to offer.

You enjoy your setup Peter, the Denon DP 80 and Dynavector vinyl front end is one of the best that I have ever heard and I have heard many over the years,it is so good that I have a DP 80 arriving soon for my own system, followed by a plinth similar to the one you have. Can’t afford the Dynavector arm though, will have to slum it with the AT1503 mk111.

You've no need to apologize for anything Peter, we are all different in what we like. The mat didn't work for you, that's fine. As you've said, the Denon has been a revelation after all those years with your other turntable. I suspect yours doesn't sound much different to mine anyway.
