Suspected Hernia - Nightmare!

I can't believe it but I may have some sort of hernia :(

Seen a consultant today and he's going to have further tests done but it maybe that I have a hernia. I have no bulge so it's a suspected 'hidden' one which gives me much grief and pain

Will have a specialised ultrasound scan in a few weeks time to confirm it or not

The consultant said it's an easy fix with keyhole surgery... nice :doh:

Nothing too much to worry about Bev. I've just had my second inguinal hernia repaired using conventional surgery.

This one was a bulge and I now have a 3 inch scar, still recovering at present. It was a day surgery case and I am on my feet, just can't lift anything for a few weeks.

The first in 2013 was a lot smaller and was repaired using key hole surgery which is a lot less evasive. Couldn't believe how small the three incisions were for the surgery.
The consultant is right it's an easy fix with keyhole surgery. Normal painkillers like paracetamol for a few days and you'll be right as rain.

I had an inguinal which gave me a LOT of discomfort, unfortunately couldn't have keyhole surgery due to previous appendectomy and removal of portion of blocked intestine - I don't think they can see what's going on with keyhole if you've had previous work done, anyway there was some reason they had to get the big knife out. My abdomen looks like a motorway map of the Midlands now.

Well I guess it might be that I don't have one and won't know for a few weeks until I have my ultrasound but I reckon it's pretty likely I do :(

Had three ops for bi-inguinal hernia
2012 , 2016 and 2017 as long as done early you will be fine. Unfortunately mine was quite severe and not sighted by jackass consultant till a year after.

I've decided that if I do have a hernia I will only have it taken care of by keyhole surgery, if it's not keyhole I'll just leave it alone..;)

Hi Bev, I don't wish to alarm you but if it turns out to be an inguinal hernia I would get it seen to, I believe these are potentially dangerous and the intestine can become obstructed... your doc/consultant should mention this but some of them can be a bit blasé so I would check it out. Hope it all turns out OK for you anyway.

I had an ordinary hernia (low down ) that resulted from me and my brother in law , 25 and stupid , moving some second hand storage heaters , with 2 scaffolding poles and some straps .(I had been told the elements would get broken if we pulled them apart so they went in whole )
We were just turning the corner on the stairs when I felt a bit sore -bugger :rolleyes:

Had that done 25 yr ago, not keyhole , and then ended up with a belly button hernia a couple of yrs ago that was in danger of strangualtion my bod told me . Keyhole , in for an hr or 4 then home !!

Had my scan today which confirmed it is a small hernia which will probably need an operation

Got a follow up appointment end of April when, I guess, they will tell me if I need an op or not..

It can happen to anybody, but it can also be congenital and tend to run in families.

I had a. Right side Inguinal done two years ago. Never felt right afterwards. Had a pinch below the scar that moved upwards over the course of six months. Surgeon reckons I must have pulled the stitches and moved or folded one side of the mesh during recovery. Still get a twinge from it even now when climbing or cycling. Bit it's never bulged again so decided not to have it opened up.

My father had some sort of hernia so you might be right Geoff that it runs in families

I think mine is pretty small but I guess it could get bigger and give me more grief so maybe sorting it out now would be better

very wise , that mesh can be very troublesome if you mess with it

I had my right side inguinal op a few years ago (as already mentioned). I get a bit of an light ache sometimes after cycling or walking a lot but otherwise OK. Before the op my activity was severely restricted as it was extremely uncomfortable. When I mentioned I had one I was surprised how many 'me toos' popped up, they are not uncommon among males.
