Hello Folks
Alan here from sunny Wythall, Worcestershire.
Just joined. I believe I have to introduce myself.
I'm using a Rega Planar 3 original RB200, Rega Elys, Project Phono box 2 SE, Cyrus 6s CD, 6vs amp and Kef 104s. Put together over the last 15 years. Not much by some members standards and I know it can be improved on. Perhaps I will get some usefull pointers here?
Music: a wide range the wife and I have collected over the years. Van the man, Ry Cooder, scandanavian jazz .....
Please excuse any dumb questions.

Kef 104's ' classic speaker's i remember them well .
Thanks everyone for your welcoming greetings.
Not sure how local Hamish is but hi anyway.
The 104s are a bit tatty now and taking up more space that the good lady sees as part of her ongoing plans.
I'm not in any hurry to change things myself so will probably lurk, read, get a feel for what people are happy with and maybe ask some of those dumb questions later down the road.
However, having looked around some more I think this forum might be a bit too enthusiastic for my tastes/needs.

I think I see what you mean. I'm not very techy and more a music person, in fact some of your posts on music made me think this is an interesting place to visit. Then once I had looked around more I saw all the lists of equipment(?) people were using, you know at the end of their posts, and that made me think these people are using stuff I have certainly never heard of and it is a bit of an enthusiasts place.
Best get on with some work now!!

im not techy, i dont know much about music ... in fact 95% of my input into the site is nonsence (ref. link no.2) and the other 5% is usually asking daft questions .. i might have some relativly unusual equipment, but thats all from recomendations from people on here ... very good recomendations at that!
... no you cant be that local, im pretty familiar with worcestershire... and im not familiar with wythall...

We're all in it for the music! We'd be interested in your thoughts on music too, so a good place to dive in is that section.

No-one here will ever think any less of you for the gear that you own. But there is always the chance to make it perform better if you'd like it to. There are plenty of folks on hand who can help you with that, and to help you choose other gear if you decide to make more fundamental changes.

What you should try to remember, is we all started off with budget/lower mid market gear.
My own set up (20 years ago) was
Ariston Q Deck Turntable (£150)
Goldring 1010 cart (?)
Rotal 820l amplifier (£130)
Marantz 273 se Cd player (£250)
Rotel 850al Tuner (£150)
Trio Kt 54 Tape deck (£100)
Celestion Ditton 100 Speakers (£100)
various QED PI gold cables (£25) and Audio Spec latitude speaker cable (£8 a meter)
This was my set up for a few years, before I replaced the amplifier with an Audio Innovation series 300 valve amp (then AI Series 500), Marantz 65se cd player (then Marantz CD 85 and then a CD 94 mk2) and the speakers with a pair of Pro-Ac Super tabletes. I found listening to and hearing about higher end kit and the way it can unlock music, the thing that both enthused me and spurred me on to end up with what I have now.
Its a journey and some start and stop where you are, and others keep on up the road. However at the end of the day its about enjoying music, and we all learn from each other on that one, again and again and again.
So contribute when you can, but don't be put off, stick around its worthwhile
imho/e.

Well Alan, don't let anyone else know, but I've managed over 2,000 posts without knowing anything about hifi, and having a very mediocre system (with names you'll have heard of!) - but for me, it is all about the music too - I've learnt so much about genres and artists I wouldn't otherwise have encountered, and had some great fun and banter with everyone on here - I'd urge you to stick around for a bit, and see how you get on - I guarantee you won't be treated any differently.

We are talking the difference between two junctions on the M5 or thereabouts.
Welcome. We are into tweaking here which does not necessarily mean spending money on shiny new boxes, at least until you've optimised your existing ones. Ten years ago I went to my friend's brother in law's house and transformed his system with no more than a few two-pence pieces, some cable I no longer needed and a bit of imagination.
He was blown away.
