And in the wonderful world of hi-fi there is always dollar-pound parity regardless of the actual exchange rate. So that's 20 thousand pounds sterling. Still, we can dream.

As far as I'm aware the picture I posted is the new SL-1000R, the version of the SP-10 complete with tonearm and plinth. Also there may be a plinth available to take extra tonearm(s). No price as yet from Panasonic. I'd expect it to come in around 8-9k with arm. :)

The SP10R feature in the November edition of Hifi Choice showed price as €10,000 Euros - just shy of £9K.
Cant remember if it mentioned that including plinth and arm.
If £9K includes arm and plinth then thats not too bad really all things considered for what should be a genuine high end audiophile turntable, not sure though, someone may know / confirm. Why do I think £9k wouldnt be for the 'full package' ? :scratch:

Hi Rob. A very Happy New Year as well.
The 1000-R is to be offered as a complete package with magnesium tonearm and plinth as standard, not to be confused with the SP 10-R motor unit. That is how I understand it from the Technics press release at the CES.
It's probably wishful thinking on my part about the pricing, although I'm guessing around the 8-9,000 UK Pounds. If it is around that price area I will be tempted for sure. :)

I helped Steve unpack the Techy, it's a beautiful thing . From the birch ply case it oozes quality.
Sounds adequate :D, I'd love to have one myself, it'd fit right in with my lot :D

Rock solid. Perfect timing. Superb bass and detail. Simple to use.
It’s as much about wonderful engineering as it is sound reproduction. It is lovely.

Wow, excellent ! Pretty much matches the majority of what I've read about the SP10 MK2/3 (and heard directly from a few owners) so not surprising with this being it's latest incarnation.

I’ve never been that fussed about the SP10, but I could definitely go for one of these with the proper plinth.
The SL1000r is indeed an excellent and beautiful package. However and IMO, unless you've around £13k to spend then a properly plinthed and serviced SP10 MK2/3 is the next best / smart option which should have you right up there, at a fraction of the cost ;)

I suspect, that its own arm holds it back. If I were buying one it would not be with its own tonearm.

My thoughts exactly, though I'm pleased Steve is enjoying his arm/turntable combination.
Fed up of reading about the poor arm from people who are guessing.
It’s longer. It’s a totally new tube material.
The bearings and wire are better.
It’s factory fit so tolerances are bang on. Apart from he snob value of some esoteric add on it is missing nothing.
It works perfectly and is simplicity itself to use and set up. It’s just speculative nonsense to say it’s poor.

Trust me!Must admit, the early listening tests were all done with this arm and IIRC they were all singing its praises.
The arm has as much work on it as possible and I believe technics said as much.

I'd agree with that, the Mk2 is a very good TT in the same class as my TTS/Garrard's (pick your flavour). The only other time I've felt that level of hair raising, shivers down my spine had a rather more expensive Kronos at the front end.

The plinth and arm are a 6k uplift on list price so it’s not exactly a budget option. It is the preferred ten inch length that the Japanese find the sweet spot, and I’m inclined to agree having owned a nine, ten and twelve inch arm.
I can’t knock any of it.
