Some shower gels are really thin and you squeeze hoping not to squirt out an unnecessarily large amount - not easy to do. I think they do it on purpose so that you waste loads.
For about the past year I have decanted the contents of the "squeezer" into an old hand soap dispenser with the push down doodah. I reckon I am using abouit 5 times less than I was. Well worth doing.

I don't want to be a party pooper but shower gels and shampoos are full of harmful chemicals (Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate (SLS/SLES), Dioxane, Parabens, Propylene glycol, Diethanolamine or DEA, Fragrance, Triclosan, etc.) a truly horrid cocktail. My advice, just use some simple natural soap to avoid the chemicals and as a bonus you wont have the squirting problem :) either.

That's funny. I'm 70 now and I've been using them for as long as I can remember. Nothings fallen off yet, but maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones. :scratch:

Yep, having worked for over thirty years in chemistry I have to completely agree with you. Soap however is also a chemical cocktail so what to do...? Soapless cleaners are usually pH neutral whereas soap is not, it is generally alkaline being based around sodium hydroxide and fat. I way prefer soap.

I'd forgotten just how beautiful the smell is, though it is also a bit Marmite as some people can't stand it.
I even bought a couple of these for my bathroom to really take it back to the 70s ;)

I much prefer a shower rather than sitting in all your body scum , when I did bath it allways left a rim of scum around the bath , Yuck

It is what I use for my showers, I love it.
I use Imperial Leather because I bought a whole box of it years ago very cheap. Think I might be on the last bar now. Can you still buy it?

There is no shower here (apart from family :), but I'd sooner have a bath anyway. I don't like shower gels, many of them have a greasy, slippery character which I find unpleasant. Give me a bar of soap anytime.

I haven't had a bath for about 40 years. I was never a fan of baths as a child. You either had to fill the bath so high that my father beat all the skin off me before I had a chance to sample the depths as I had used all the hot water (despite the fact that we had on of those water heater things on the wall that killed you if you used it whilst in the bath and in theory offered hot water on demand) or you sat in an inch of water and shivered (no central heating in our terraced victorian slum)
Actually, I have realised that my OP is a little misleading in that I suffer from dry skin and have to slather myself in Aqueous cream to stop my skin falling off, (or rather me scratching it off for an hour after I have showered) so the heinous shower gel does not really permeate my skin. Maybe that is why I am still alive.

When I have had to suffer a shower and tried to use soap, I've always ended up dropping it. It's so damn slippery. That's ok if you have a decent size shower, but those over-bath jobbies with a nylon curtain make it hell bending down to rescue the soap. Is that what they mean by "don't drop the soap? :lol:

Yesh, it helps if you don't leave it for 6 months between each bath! :eyebrows:
I like a bath to sit and have a nice soak in, when I have time (there are ceiling speakers fitted in our bathroom, so I can relax and listen to some choons), but will generally take a shower. Always use soap though, never gel, which is 100% natural and organic:

Having been to boarding school I have a lifelong aversion from showers. Take off your clothes and stand in line in the draughty house gym. [I was 33rd out of 34 boys.] Boys went into the shower room in threes. Once finished we were required to bend over for inspection. This, apparently, was to ensure that you had washed your perineum properly. Not all masters were diligent in the execution of their duty in this regard. Junior house only mind.

Much of that scum is the shit that's in the water to start with. It's a problem that afflicts quite a lot of the South East of England.
The same scum appears in cups of tea/coffee.
Your flaking skin contributes little to it.

Like when I lived in Bath, hardest water I have encountered. You’d not be able to see the inside of your kettle if not descaling every couple of months.
For the more adventurous among us, try sitting down to take a shower
- eliminates chore of picking up soap
- reduces splashing on walls etc so cleaning up is easier
- prevents sneaky glances from passing perverts
- reduces risk of slipping for the elderly (I.e. Me)
- ensures a sparkling perineum
- farts have more resonance

Yup, and particularly so in North Wales. Snapper has commented that his skin feels much softer and his complexion looks rosier/healthier after he's been here for a while :)
The water quality in North Wales really is great, even for drinking (buying mineral water is simply a waste of money). It's very pure, as there is so little pollution here and plenty of rocks and mountains!

After helping my grandad painting he would often clean me up using a good measure of turpentine on a rag. Any cuts were where cleaned with neat iodine, the brown stuff that stained the skin. The iodine was actually for the pigeons injuries , but I guess he figured it didnt do them any harm.
Shower gel doesnt seem so bad in comparison.
My dad relished dishing out the iodine
Due to my various dodgy body joints and my err....ample physique, taking a bath is out of the question. I shower pretty much every day unless my back is really playing up and I did find my skin drying out quite badly, I tried many different soaps and gels and in the end found Pears shower gel does the job nicely, and it smells nice too, not like an explosion in the Lynx factory. :acid:

Suffering from eczema and having very dry skin, I have to be careful what I use both in the shower and the bath. Years of trial, error and scratching have led me to Palmolive or Radox bubble bath and Molton Brown shower gel.
I don’t think I’ve used a bar of soap since I moved out of my parents house!
bloody shower packed up just after starting. went freezing then cut out :doh: didnt do my heart any good.. had to just wash with a rag on a stick :eyebrows:
Nightmare, mate. Is it an electric one? I prefer those that work directly off the water mains, as they're more reliable and have better pressure, too.

Yup electric. Element must have gone I guess. It was fitted with the wet floor room. I preferred a bath but needs must. It's been changed b4. Hand wash only in sink til it gets replaced I guess.
I like those showers u have.
No worries. If you're going to replace it, now might be the best time, as there are some major bargains in bathroom stuff in the sales. Have a Google around :)

I much prefer showers, and use Lynx 'Africa' shower gel as I like to smell like an African warthog ("Ah the sweet essence of giraffe"). ;)
Soap used is either 'Imperial Leather' or a lemon soap called 'Citrus' available from Boots.

250ml at £1 each or the NEW XL 500ml for £4 each :scratch:
needles to say I obtained 10 of the small ones , should last me another 10 years ;)

A real man just needs a bar of soap, maybe a back brush and thats it :) Proper army discipline when you strip down and clean your razor on a daily basis :)
Seriously though I always thought I was getting through Shower gel and hand wash too fast so I tried the Pears transparent soap bars again...70p each or something.
To be fair soap is also pretty awkward in the shower and it doesnt last all that long if youre having a good scrub. You have to keep plonking it in the soap dish on the rail. In a multi family environment its a non starter really as you dont want a soap bar used by others.
So its just a case of finding a good value gel with enough to last. I just get the cheapest.
Shower gel dispensers like washing up liquid ones are designed to dispense at least 5 times as much as you need every time you squeeze them. Then if you have kids around, who just love to see it squirting out and drop most of it in the water, you are really in trouble!

Ive never had a problem with cheap gel. A long time ago I used to get itchy calves with whatever soap I was using.
Cheap gel doesnt have to be bad gel. I would say that a lot of the more fancy gels are just marketing

I had the same thing, it's just dry skin. The soap removes natural skin oils and adds to the dryness and shower gel is not the answer either. My doctor told me it's not uncommon, the skin getting dryer as you get older. He recommended baby oil or baby lotion on the shins and calves after bathing. It worked!

Moisturise yourself 'from within' by having a healthy level of olive oil in your diet, and generally eating well (plenty of fresh fruit and veg). You very rarely see Mediterranean people with dry skin :)

Doesn't matter, soap is self-cleaning
Only last year or so its attacked me mostly legs. Doesn't help not being able to get to them.
They say using a cream just after a short shower and trap some moisture in the skin will help

I try to only buy bar soap, as natural as possible. I avoid anything in plastic bottle type packaging like shower gels and squirty bottled hand soaps, for ecological reasons. I know people say they are OK as you can recycle the bottles, but my thoughts are isn't it better to not create the plastic in the first place?
