Hi all,
Been on eBay and bought some Mullards for the Monoblocks. Anyone know what the BVA imports on the box is about?

Do the valves say Foreign on the glass? As I understand it these would not be made by Mullard but rebranded, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The key word here being import. As in of foreign manufacture.

I'll have a look and put some pics up. Only £8 the pair so not overly concerned about their origin. Just more of interest

I wonder what % of classic valves are actually 'knock offs' or of dubiously understood origin?

Don't forget that Mullard was only a part of the Philips group.
If a 'Mullard' valve was in short supply or not a type made in the UK it had to have 'Foreign' or later 'Imported' on it to comply with BVA rules.
Philips coded (99%) of their valves with an etch code system so you can identify the valve type, the manufacture plant and date it was made.
Have a look round the bases to see if they have a Philips manufacture etched code.
If it is a PC88 there should be a 'JE' type code followed by the symbol of the plant it was made in and then the date code.
Not always easy to see the code though.

Like others I wonder if some that we see are now the genuine article. Bigger profit in labelling something Mullard...

Counterfeit valves are quite common; especially those of well-regarded and sought after manufacturers such as Siemens and Telefunken.

I was peeved once when a "Telefunken" valve I bought off ebay turned out not to have the diamond on its base.
Actually I didn't return it as it sounded very good!
