Headphone listening

Just got into proper headphone listening bought some audeze el8 https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171224/5e6640a21c4c2443524cf25190085a27.jpgand an oppo HA-1 https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171224/ca3fdc9b075bbbb6bf925f434a32db6e.jpg don’t know if it’s just me but on certain recordings there seems to be slightly more volume coming from the left channel thinking it maybe the way a tracks been recorded or have I got dodgy ears or a dodgy set of cans the balance on the oppo is preset

Try some ear wax remover-sometimes cans can be a tad more revealing.

The chemists sell stuff you pour in yer lug hole and it dissolves all the wax-dont go prodding around with cotton buds, let the liquid stuff do its work.

If your noticing it then there may be an issue. More likely the amp tho

Funny you should say that grant noticing it more on vinyl replay so could be related to the tape outs or like Tony has alluded too it’s me jugs further investigation will commence further updates on said matter will be forthcoming

try a modern cd Steven. they are usually better balanced for headphones or something from Spotify etc. Might be the phono and the way it separates.

Have you got any other headphone sockets on your gear?
That would show if it's the Oppo amp or not.

Have you got any mono recordings? if so, twirl the headphones round so the left earcup is on your right ear, and if it's still the same offset sound then it's probably your ears.

Sent from my NEM-L51 using Tapatalk... Is what I was thinking, and cd would likely eliminate the phono chain. Alternatives as Jerry suggests or, (possibly more efficiently, pace Jerry) try swapping the cartridge leads left for right and see if the imbalance moves. If so it's the cartridge. If not swap the pre amp leads to the headphone amp left for right, see if the imbalance follows. If so it's the phono section or the pre. If not it's could be the can amp. In terms of likelihood I'd go cart setup, cans, phono, pre, can amp, hearing. We accommodate in the grey matter for most ear imbalances, so if you don't hear it with speakers you shouldn't with headphones.

Incorrect antiskate settings could cause a channel imbalance.
If you haven't already got a copy of this, get one - there are tracks you can use to set antiskate properly.

Stans SEG is a couple of hundred quid but bang for buck a bargain usb/dac/hpa.

I have one on my AV set up and my son runs one....they exceptional bits of hi fi for reasonable money.

Stan is a gent to deal with....one of the good guys.

No connection to Stan just a loyal customer for a few years.

Just listened to a copy of blues blasters layfette thing Thomas mono copy got this off grant done as Jerry suggested swapped cans around offset the same it’s me lugs looks like the old olive oil is going in me right lug cheers Jerry and all those who contributed.Just as an added thought the damage may also have been caused by women’s constant nagging.

It funny how you can hear small changes in hi fi but cant recall anything from mother in law mono logs, or the contestants on strictly/shoes/bags etc.

There can be several reasons for ear problems. Ear wax can obviously block out hearing, and using olive oil can help, though quite often wax will clear itself given time - though it may take a few weeks. Colds and blocked eustachian tubes can also cause problems. Anti histamine (hay fever) tablets can sometimes help to unblock the tubes. Travel in aircraft often seems to me to increase ear problems. Unfortunately some people suffer nerve damage, and their hearing degenerates quite rapidly.

Wasnt thinking mobile...the seg is quite a jump over the caiman 2.

IM a big cans guy....the senn 700s really sing with the seg when you match the impedance.

A curious thing though, using an MBP (Mac OS X) it works fine except on Qobuz - which seems to ignore the headphones completely - but other software does drive the DAC and the headphones.
