I decided to clear out a few odds and sods over the last couple of weeks. I found a rubber platter ring lurking in the bottom of a box and decided just to stick it on my Mike New Al/Cu platter without really thinking about it. So, last night I decided to spin a few tunes and noticed the platter ring had ridden up to the edge of the Analouge Studio Crystal mat. I was getting very distracted with the platter ring being uneven whilst watching the 1210, eventually I decided to straighten the platter ring and then happened upon the idea of using it on the platter mat. Well blow me, I actually think that I may have stumbled upon a nice little tweak that has lifted the performance of the deck. The vinyl also sits on the platter ring which may (or not) work to dampen the vinyl. I don't know if I've stumbled upon a way of improving the coupling between the vinyl and platter mat but things appear to have improved sonically.

Initial results are promising. Sound stage seems to have firmed up a little, micro detail seems to be better defined and bass a improved a smidge. Not massive improvements by any means of the imagination but a very nice welcome tweak for Xmas! Experimentation is still continuing.
