Hi Guys

Just a note to say hello and a bit about my music, sonic travels and where I'm currently resting my weary audio legs (is that possible?!). My hifi journey started with a Cambridge Audio system. I then went onto to an Audiolab/B&W and then within a very short time, I did a really daft thing: I started reading HiFi magazines.

During that phase, I must have bought the entire range of Musical Fidelity X-products, ATC SIA150, Magnapans, Kelly Transducers, Beard and Unison Research all within a 4 year period (yikes!). It was a great learning experience but not particularly clever on the wallet. More by luck than judgement, I progressively developed an understanding of the sound I liked and disliked.

One main thing I knew I liked was the sound of valves. Another was panel speakers and also single drivers. While enjoying the sound of panel speakers (Maggies), they never worked well in my flat and my small living room didn't need another set of wall dividers. So I started another search...It was then that I came across a company called Decware (http://www.decware.com/newsite/homepage.html). They had quite an active support forum and I learned a great deal from fellow tubeheads and bought one of their flea powered amps and through recommendation, bought a speaker called the Hornshoppe Horns (http://www.thehornshoppe.com/). That was about 8 years ago and appeared to have become a little more discerning with my hifi purchases. The rate of buying and selling has slowed right down and my kit is now normally set out in my member signature:
Modified Marantz CD7, Eddie Vaughn Carina, Lowther/Graves Audio Speakers, TBI Sub
Tweaks: (Mapleshade Rack, MAC IC, Vivid Cables, HGA PC, BPT block, Symposium Rollerblocks, Shun Mooks, QRT, Brilliant Pebbles)

Ooops...Bloody hell. Talk about going on and on....
Anyway, please feel free to ask questions and if there's anything I can share. I'll post some pics of the gear in the gallery.

Oh yeah, music taste, slightly eclectic but mainly jazz, folk, movie soundtrack and new age stuff...

Welcome to AoS

The Marantz CD7 is a very nice player indeed. I have a stock one..and like it lots, but don't use it as much as I should.

Where about's are you from? and can you add your first name as your signature (or part of it)..we like to use first names here.

Thanks Chris - I took a while and also the scenic route before getting to the place where I am now. Any changes will most likely be minor tweaks or additions (eg DAC with a different flavour).

Will do (hang around) Andre. Looks like a cool place with the welcome so far. I'm glad it's a self proclaimed subjectivist forum. I've been getting a little tired fighting off the measurement and double blind dogs.

Welcome, George, it's the sound that counts and there's an incredibly eclectic selection of systems here in AoS. I don't think we have any 'double-blind dogs' :)

Yep, measurement trolls can be so tedious. Also cloth-eared people. Why do they even have hifi's?

Welcome George!

Hi George

Welcome to the madhouse.

Sorry to have given the wrong impressions - Mustafa's first post came across to me as "willy waving" so I rather childishly took the cue to go on about mine.

Chris:)

Totally agreed. IMHO, hifi kit is always the means not the end of connecting the music to the listener - otherwise, why bother? Shame the objectivists seem to miss the idea that good measurement does not equal emotional connection.

Yeah - not sure if you are familiar with the term "measurebators" but it does seem very appropriate!:lol:

Sounds like my kinda madhouse..... :lolsign:
Shame he disappeared so quickly. All he needed to do was to come back with his "tail" between his legs and all would have been forgiven. ;)
